It's gotta be San Francesco's particularly the location on Winston Churchill in Mississauga.

Nice soft bun with layers of thinly sliced lightly bread veal cuts topped with a tasty tomato sauce with a jalopeno pepper! Nice and tasty!

What do you drink to wash it down? Of course a Brio!

Anyone else know of other fine establishments???

Best I ever had was at the California sandwich shop somewhere around Claremont & Dundas. Place was full of cabbies at the time.

There are couple of good ones at the StLawrence market, too.

Went there myself this week and it is still there.

You bought your sandwich at San Francesco, Bitondo's or California and went upstairs at the Monarch to enjoy it with a beer.

I just mentioned the three best veal sandwich places in the city above, i rotate between all 3 to maintain my "Regular" status at each one.

Its been a while since I've been in the area, but there was a place called Vincentina Meats in the Creditstone/Langstaff area of Woodbridge. It was the factory outlet of a fairly large-scale butcher shop, and they had a hot-table for lunch.........the lineups started at 10:30 and went until 3:00 for their sangwiches. Veal with onions, sweet peppers & mozzarella, or porchetta with sweet peppers were their two best choices. I'm sure that the company is still around, as their "Marc Angelo" brand is in lots of grocery stores, but not sure if the location is the same (they needed a bigger place to handle the customer traffic).

There was also a place called Memphis Ribs, on Islington near Woodbridge Ave, that had the best ribs & wings of just about any place.........little rundown shack, literally a shack, with lineups out the door during lunch and dinner hours.

I would say that San Fran and California Sandwiches in the original Little Italy district are the best but there are a lot of other Italian bakeries and restaurants that would give them a run for their money (i.e, Remo's Place in Rexdale, or authentic Italian bakeries with hot tables).

California Sandwiches all the way, however I still have only tried their Claremont location .

http://californiasandwiches.ca/

Been meaning to try the one on 2474 Dufferin Street (north of Eglinton) for a very long time, as it is very close to the Fairbank Strip Club. I have no excuse as I'm there all the time. LOL

Tried many, many veal sandwiches over the years and still the undisputed champ is Cali's on Claremont.
Their veal has gotten thinner but the sauce is what makes it.
Man, I'm craving a hot veal with onions right about now.

I've been to 4 other of their locations and Claremont is by far the best.

I still like the Clinton San Frans. Their hot peppers have a great flavour.

...
I've been to other locations twice and was never impressed (and it wasn't just the lack of the neighbours kitchen vibe).

Drove down Grace today and had that craving but not open Sundays.

Love the spiced olives too.

If you're in the Markham area there is a restaurant called Nonna's in the strip plaza at the corner of 16th ave and Hwy 48. Their veal sandwich isn't comparable to Cali's or San Fran's but good nonetheless as they don't go cheap on the various toppings.

California's on Claremont for sure. Then the Queensway location. The others aren't as good.

Agree as well on the Winston Churchill San Francesco's. They make a nice steak and are generous with their toppings. i think they still do a combo with salad olives and a pop for something ridiculously cheap like 6.99.

The one and only, always imitated, never duplicated. Haven't been in a year, and yes still there then.

Gotta agree that Remo's is pretty good for their Veal and Roast Beef Sandwiches! Rudy and Kelly do a great job at this little location.

The wife swears by the San Frans on Coxwell. I am newbie in the veal sandwich experience so I have only tried SFs and homemade.
We will try the Clinton location as well as several other places mentioned.

I was excited to see this thread since I have been looking for a great veal sandwich EVER SINCE my last visit to California Sandwiches on Claremont, which was extremely disppointing. The sandwich was like sucking a salt shaker, so salty it was disgusting. And I've been a regular there for at least 15 years. No more. Maybe I'll try Bitondos again, they used to be my favourite back in the 80s.
