I was really disgusted when I heard they stuck a piece of rebar up inside her and when they pulled it out it her lower intestines came out with it. The doctors had to remove the intestines and she died as a result. Gross.
If you read the quote from the charge sheet at the top of the thread, it was obviously even worse than that.

I don't agree with the death penalty either. I am quite comfortable with this scum spending the rest of their natural lives rotting in an Indian prison. Since the cities in India are such crap I can assume the prisons are horrific.. lock them up forever. Perhaps put them in charge of cleaning up the shit in prison for the rest of their lives..and paint murals of their victim all over their cells.

I've been to India a few times. I'd take the media reports with a grain of salt. I don't agree with the death penalty in any case.
ofcourse you wouldn't be raped as a dude.. though you just might on your next visit. Grown men there like to walk around holding hands and arms around other guys like they're just friends xd

They need to move beyond just extracting vengeance on these perpetrators, towards a general campaign of changing cultural attitudes towards women and rape.

The male victim has spoken out. He says it took AN HOUR AND A HALF before they were taken to hospital. The police stood around arguing about which police station would have jurisdiction instead of doing anything to help them, he says.

Considering it's India... I believe that.

just saw it on CNN with an indian reporter saying there are about 600+ rape charges in India each year (mind you... majority of them go unreported), and only 1 resulted in a conviction.

30% of the Indian politicians have some sort of sexual assault or rape charge against them but none are convicted.

I've hear waaaayyyy too many stories about Western women going to what they believe is "Beautiful, Joyous and Incredible India" for a vacation, being lured into a taxi, home or drugged and raped. And many of them were gang raped too.

Just about 2 miles past appropriate
America is far worse.
Because of my business I have had extensive exposure to India and it's culture. As a Canadian I've lived in both India and the US while working on long contracts and all I can say is that you must be trolling because that is one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever seen.

There is great beauty and culture in India and bad things happen here and yep, the news is definitely biased, but the sheer poverty and population of the place (in some areas) is overwhelming and that cheapens life all by itself. And the caste system....

Really??? How many? This seems like a major exaggeration...

The police that caused this should be charged with reckless endangerment... but hey, even cops here get away with murder so I doubt anything will happen over there,.

I too have lived in India in the past....and I believe there is a significant problem with sexual assaults, etc. against women. Women who dress in anything considered provocotive (for example jeans) are considered to be asking for it. This is even more the case in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan...but India has it too.

The justice system can move very slowly there...and this case is a big wake up call for the country. It is a very tragic event....hopefully it can result in some significant change for women there...as well as justice in this particular case.

Don't forget "wife burning".
That almost entirely ended with General Sir Charles James Napier, GCB (a Great-great-grandson of King Charles II) in the mid-1840's.

"You say it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive we hang them. Build your funeral pyre and my carpenters shall build a gallows. You may follow your custom and then we shall follow ours."

Actually, many wives still die in India due to their sari "mysteriously" catching fire. Something about the dowry being too small.

well... maybe not 'wife burning' but 'woman burning is ever present... A 16 yr old girl was raped and burned to death during October , another met the same fate in 2011.

I've seen a documentary where some Indian husbands have set their wives on fire for failure to deliver a male child! They're too ignorant to know that it's the man who determines the sex of the child, not the worman. I hate ignorance and barbarity.....it's a lethal combination.

all over the world women are violently raped and murdered this isnt unique to india. The media is really something else they are making it seem like if your a woman in india you will be raped. You also need to remember they have over a billion people, so theres going to be more rapes vs canada or america
