After my car accident I ballooned to 250+ lbs. I wasn't getting any exercise and I was eating as I normally did.

The insurance company had me do a sleep study and I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I wasn't enthused about wearing the breathing mask, so I went on a diet instead. I based my diet on what Osmin Hernandez (Operation Osmin) has his clients go on. The only carbs I ingest are from raw vegetables. I got weighed at my doctors office, I tipped the scale at 253 lbs. Ten days after starting my diet I weighed myself at rehab, I was at 240 lbs.

Here's my daily consumption of food:

2 Hard Boiled eggs
2 Glasses of Milk
2 Glasses of Apple Juice
Mango Salad
Uncooked carrots for snacking
And a tablespoon of peanut butter when I have hunger pains.

I've stopped watching The Food Network and give Cinnebon a wide breath.

I'll have to do this as well since I've balooned up to 215. Did you have the energy to work out or even do anything on such a low calorie, low carb, low protein diet?

I'm waiting for my doctor to give me the green light to train. So far I've only done limited physiotherapy.

I sometimes have grilled chicken with the mango salad. Eggs are packed with protein, I sometimes have them poached with corned beef hash when I loosen the regimen.

All those so-called nutritionists that say you should go on a low fat diet are full of shit. Your body needs fat to feed your muscles and keep your joints limber. Since I started this diet my arthritic pain has vanished. Problems are created when you mix fat with carbs. The body prefers to absorb the carbs while the fat stays in the bloodstream. Carbs won't give you that benefits that fat does, you'll have more energy but you wont have the muscle definition and your joints will ache.

I agree. It's the carbs that fatten us up, bloat us up and if you combine that with a sedentary lifestyle = obesity.

Fuckin carbs.....the tire around the middle I carry now is all carbs! And burning it off is the toughest! :(

Carbs are important but they have to be complex carbs. If you're a runner carbs are essential. If you want to get rid of the spare tire put together a varied abs workout (don't forget to work your back) and do at least 30 minutes on the elliptical machine. When I do have carbs it's rye bread or pumpernickel.

Another informative video from my coach, the image is misleading. She's right about one item - STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM SOY.

I had a gorgonzolla omelet for breakfast, but I still feel listless. I was told that I shouldn't stay on my diet for more than two weeks, the body goes into starvation mode.

Isn't the idea to get on a program that you can live with long term.

Best do the CPAP thing as well unless a subsequent sleep test shows you no longer have sleep apnea. Not something to be cavalier about, that shit.,

The horror...I lost a chin...the horror! What is CPAP?

The diet is somewhat radical, my physiotherapist told me to start eating some form of carbs as of today. I usually don't eat oatmeal during warm weather months, time to make it an exception. Wild rice takes a looong time to cook but worth it.

And I smell what The Rock is cookin...I love bacala.

Dr Poon is covered by OHIP and is low carb and I am on it

I slowly lose weight because I drink

While alcohol has no carbs, your body burns the alcohol for energy before fat so it slows the burn down considerably

There is low carb wine called Skinny Grape and low carb beer both lower in alcohol as well as carbs

Program definitely works

Lift weights to lose even faster as your growing muscles will burn fat for energy

Fruit has carbs, especially fruit juice, so lose the apple juice

Juicer are BS IMHO, how do they release the nutrients and do we need more nutrients are questions you should ask yourself as you take out the fibre which we do need more of and even veggy juice has too much sugar and starch

lose any veggy that grows under ground IE beets, carrots as they are stored starch which your body converts to sugar which converts to fat

eat all the leafy greens you want IE spinach as very little carbs and lots of nutrition

A salad with zero carb dressing and tuna and nuts is a great snack

cauliflower and cabbage and meat to make this tasty item

use low sodium broth and extra lean meat

Eat all the fish and meat you want just cut the saturated fat out of the meat for health reasons

you can buy low carb bread at low carb stores

Eating raw is nonsense as cooking actually helps body get rid of carbs

your diet is waaaaaaay to restrictive so you will never do it long term

Mangoes are high in sugar -- for example, mangoes have 3 times the sugar content of raspberries.

I question your diet

Some bad news is your initial lost weight may be water as you have restricted salt which retains water so that does not count

Sleep apnea is a serious problem, if you have insurance the cost of everything will be a couple hundred if not then perhaps $1000

the mask is not big deal at all as I do not even know I got it on

weight is not the initial cause of apnea it just contributes to it

I hate to break the news to you, but you have probably only really lost 2 - 3 pounds in one week. which is still a lot! But The other 10, or who knows, even 11 or 12, are 'inventory reduction' - i.e. you have a lot less poo (and possibly water from eating lower salt food) in your intestines. A one-off freebie.

so lose the apple juice
You may have a point Yoga Face, the apple juice is there for a reason. I smoke cigarettes.

Apples have the same properties as cranberries, they are anti-oxidants. Helps to minimize the damage done by nicotine. It's physically impossible to do both, my weight problem came first. Eventually I'll figure out how to get off the cancer faggs, till then the apple juice stays.

Good point barnacler, it's an adjustment process but I didn't use that much salt in my cooking to begin with. I have to become more active to lose more weight, hopefully next Monday my doctor gives me green light to train.

Present weight 236 lbs and holding, a loss of 17 lbs.

I knew once I lost the excess weight, the weight loss would slow considerably. The problem is I'm smoking too much, I need to find a more proactive way to control my hunger pains. The diet as was could not be maintained. Not enough calories and I was feeling listless. I needed to eat more green, so I bought a bamboo steamer for the purpose. The veggies I enjoy eating are carrots, arugula and rapini, which works well but you can't wilt arugula. I can't go gung ho on the exercise - can't look to healthy for the MVA hearing. I intend to do a 24 hr fast the day before I sit down with the lawyers.

If you want a very health weight loss dish, I suggest arugula salad with sliced pear and balsamic. I felt great after consuming that - with a few meatballs on the side of course. I'm still eating hamburgers but with no bun nor cheese, in a lettuce wrap.

Best news is I don't have to go to George Richards to buy clothing. I'll be watching the Jays at the Dome on Canada Day and I intend to cheat, hopefully they have pita and tortillas there.

I'm sorry to say this, but diets suck! Why starve yourself? Why put yourself through that torture? When you drop to your ideal weight, you will go back up. Solution, take at least 10, 000 steps a day, burn 500 more calories then you put in every day, exercise, eat a balanced meal and once in a while be bad and go all beast mode on them ribs. Almost every day I burn between 4,000 to 6,000 calories and feel great. When I started doing this my resting heart rate dropped to high 40s and have lots of energy and endurance to crush all my workouts. So yeah, diets are not all that you think they are IMO and they do not work in the long run and may make you sick by depleting you body of what it needs to function properly from a balanced meal.

Proof is in the pudding...

Thanks for great info folks.

Yes I've put away the radical diet, it did it's job. It was a variation of what Osmin Hernandez advocates for his clients (fish, salad, water). I'm avoiding the processed sugar and the white carbs at all costs. Tomorrow I plan to indulge, do they have good nachos fully loaded at the SkyDome?

By the way I did sned an e-mail to Osmin, but I haven't heard back from him. Corinna Rachel has been more forthcoming with encouragement...maybe I'll make that trip to her home town of Austin, Texas.

I don't drink fruit juices anymore. Too much sugar. There are some that are calorie reduced without sugar that I might indulge or mix water for specific purposes (cranberry to help flush out UT).

Eat the apple instead.

Drink unsweetened Almond Milk instead too.

Soy Milk might be better too.

Walk daily.

I'm going to send a link I just recently received. It talks about lipoprotein B (bad) but the bottom of the article sums up the Pritikin diet and exercise plan.

http://www.pritikin.com/what-is-apo...wsletter&utm_campaign=newsletter#.VYv9QWAitUQ

Don't get me wrong. I still love my pasta and steak and cheeses, but one really has to not make those daily staples.

Check out the link of a Mr. Holley who was 250 pounds but went on the Pritikin diet and exercised to the point of half marathons. Not saying you need to do marathons, but he started off by walking daily.

As for myself, I'm not a big guy, but I should shed 10 pounds. More would be excellent.

Lift weights too. Good for joints and adds fat burning muscle tone to boost metabolism.

P.S. Go to Shoppers and buy (25% off) Dr. Mark Hyman's De-Tox book. His 10 day de-tox is to make people see how they can feel better as the beginning of a life-long change for the best.
