Wow.
I was going to say something about Rick Mercer's show, but this thread has been hijacked so many times, I'm not sure how.
Oh, what the hell.
As to getting people to say stupid things: Asking people to read pre-written material is very, very simple. Anyone with a clipboard and a camera carries enough authority to be assumed honest. There is tons of research on this. I do not hold them accountable for the statements, necessarily. Nonetheless, they were reading absurd things, and it was funny.
On the other hand, answering questions is all their own. He asked a Harvard political economy professor very simple questions about Canadian government that really aught to have been known by any economic or political analyst, espcially one teaching at an ivy league university.
And there is just no explanation for having people agree that it was a good idea that Canada START a navy despite the fact that "WE HAVE NO ACCESS TO THE OCEAN!"
People did not know we didn't have States. Well, a 10 year old did.
Call it whatever, its damn funny and entertaining. I think Rick Mercer is brilliant.
I'm sorry, was I supposed to be watching people eating worms for money instead?
Come on people, the Americans don't need Rick Mercer to make them behave like idiots (note, I said behave like, not are). Shall we do a little rundown of the most popular tv: Any reality show that makes people do disgusting things, get naked, fight, starve, or otherwise put themselves in danger or subject themselves to truly traumatizing humiliation or risky multiple surgeries, Jerry Springer, COPS, ... oh forget it, I'm getting sick just trying to write the list!
