Watching Smerconish this morning he had on three presidential historians. It was a good show and one of them made a great point.

The USA has been divided since the Civil War. And only twice in History United.

December 7th 1941
September 11th 2001

And has on numerous occasions dating back to Jackson and up to Carter elected populous candidates and outsiders.

The parties need a wake up.
They're awake. The country is becoming functionally ungovernable. And it's getting worse and worse.

As ive stated. A real progressive party needs to rise.

For that to happen both parties need to fracture.

LOL! If the Democrats want to die on the illegal immigration hill, more power to them. Never interrupt the enemy while he's making a mistake.

Good thinking. That'd be why they didn't sign onto the Republican stopgap 'budget'.

Now if the Congressmen and Senators would give the American people the respect of not treating their elected representatives as enemies, they might get some governing done and earn their elite salaries.

It would help if they had a leader in the White House who kept his word. But as they're learning, with a 140 character limit, that doesn't amount to much anyway.

Some. There is also a theory about a cultural self gerrymandering that has occurred. People of like mind have moved closer together as well.

I agree this needs to happen. But that doesn't resolve the gridlock in the Senate. Gerrymandering has no effect there.

And as I've oft stated. The Dems are NOT a progresdive party under it's present leadership. Not even close. They will just as happily bow to military spending and big Medical to prevent Universal Health Care. And engage in partisan bickering.

The much greater issue is due to unlimited campaign contributions. And a binary choice that results in no choice.

The two party system needs to die. Party registration should be banned at the official level. And the citizens United decision needs to be overturned.

Schumer's shutdown reveals: Democrats will destroy America just to spite Trump

Donald Trump was inaugurated one year ago after promising to make America great again. Throughout the campaign everyone knew what he believed, though it was not clear what his opponents stood for.

The Schumer shutdown has revealed the totality of the Democrats’ agenda: animosity and amnesty.

When President Trump set out to deliver historic tax cuts for the American people, Democrats sat on their hands, rather than participating in the legislative process.

Now they’ve come off the sidelines to actively sabotage the government established to serve the American people.

Their stated reason for doing so is even more astounding than the act itself.

Never before in American history has a major political party put the interests of lawbreaking foreign nationals ahead of the interests of law abiding Americans. Yet that is exactly what the Democrats have done in holding the government hostage to extract special favors for illegal immigrants.

This is a remarkable achievement — and it’s the only achievement the Democrats can claim since blowing their “sure thing” election in 2016.

We already knew the Washington Democrats hated Trump.

Now we know they oppose not just the president, but American government, the American people and even the very concept of American citizenship as well.

They call Americans “deplorables” and illegal immigrants “Dreamers.” That tells you everything you need to know about the Democrats’ upside-down world view.

It would almost be laughable if the consequences were not so serious.

The Schumer shutdown is a preview of what we can expect should the Democrats wrest control of the legislative branch in November. It’s no laughing matter.

Over the past year, Trump has turned the economy around. Overall unemployment and female unemployment ar at an 18-year low, unemployment insurance claims at a 45-year low, business and consumer confidence at or near record highs, and black and Hispanic unemployment at the lowest levels ever recorded. Jobs are growing and wages are rising.

Thanks to the Trump tax cuts, millions of Americans have received pay hikes and bonuses, Chrysler will build cars in Michigan rather than Mexico, and Apple will invest $350 billion in America.

More jobs, higher wages and better opportunities for all Americans — and we’re just getting started.

But it will all be shut down if Democrats take Congress. They will bring the booming economy to a screeching halt.

Investments will dry up as businesses go in a defensive crouch, fearful of costly mandates from Washington bureaucrats emboldened by a Democratic Congress. Jobs will disappear, 401ks will shrink and economic growth will stall.

Democrats are committed to stopping Trump and his "America first" agenda, whatever the cost to the American people. Like the apocryphal commander in the Vietnam War, they will destroy the village to save it.

The Schumer shutdown shows us not only what the Democrats believe but what they are capable of doing.

And why they cannot be allowed to take control of Congress in November.

Thats exactly how I see it.

Compared to the GOP and its obsession with the evangelical vote in the South and Midwest, the Dems are "relatively" progressive. Would I prefer if they were further Left? - Sure.

Self-gerrymandering is a relatively small problem. Most people aren't free to move to a brand new community in accordance with their political views. But it's starting and that's scary too. It's getting to the point where CA and TX have no common ground at all.

And re the Citizens United decision, it's less than 10 years old. So the chances of the USSC reversing are less than 0%. And I regret that as well.

So if we had a shopping list:

1. Abolish the Senate;
2. Legislate open primary voting with all voters electing an open slate of candidates and the top 3 or 4 running in the election itself.
3. Ban political parties at the federal level.

That will help a little. But it still probably won't give the South much in common with Seattle or Boston. The country might just be too large to govern and need to break up.

I'm surprised that the Court of Appeal struck gerrymandering down. So far, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Me too.
Gerrymandering, lobbying and a system of choice between two similar parties of millionaires hasn't done the country any good.

You do realize that Gerrymandering which is actually pronounced Gɛri/ - not Jerry was the invention of the Democratic Party. The term first was used for the highly partisan and contorted electoral districts created in Massachusetts in 1812 by the Democrat - Republican Party controlled legislature and signed into law by Governor Elbridge Gerry (who subsequently was Vice-President of the United States under James Madison until his death.

This Trump shutdown will destroy the Americans. He was fixated in really wanting to shut down the Government after he had hijacked the bipartisan deals.
After all Trump was the one who point blank had stated that the responsibility of the shutdown always lies at the office of the President.

The Senate needs to change this super majority crap. They also need to change ways things are brought up and voted upon. They (both parties) play games. Enough is enough. The American people lose in the end.
I am absolutely blaming the Democrats for this current shutdown. They're using DACA as a bargaining chip to keep the government funded - that is fucking sick. Any DACA legislation needs to be thought out and done through bi partisan approval. It shouldn't happen at the 12th hour.
The Democrats hate Trump with a passion. They don't want to see him succeed in anything. Yet they can't see that Trump's success is a success for the country. All they care about is power and votes and big government agendas.

“Well, if you say who gets fired it always has to be the top,” Trump said. “I mean, problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president’s the leader. And he’s got to get everybody in a room and he’s got to lead.”

Nope. When your on the outside it's easy to say things like Trump did in 2013. When you're on the inside it's a whole different kettle of fish. I'm sure he'd walk back that comment today. This is on Schumer and Pelosi. They are relics and need to GFTO.

You mean: It's easy to talk bullshit out of your ass like a clueless blowhard asshole when you don't have any responsibility, but when you do it's super easy to blame everyone but yourself?

But Trump is the Greatest Negotiator of All Time. His words.
So I guess he isn't all he thinks he is, is he? And those 'relics' are just better than him?
