DoFo's fee break for developers has lead to a 3.69% tax increase for Hamiltonians
Set aside, ignore if you will the controversy, just pretend somehow, it doesn’t exist.

I assume you’re aware, consumers are in debt up to their eyeballs. I assume you’re aware, our youth, those recently in the workforce, or soon to leave school. Are living in the parents basements, can’t afford rent, can’t save the required 20% for down payments, to avoid higher interest rates….blah blah

You’re crying about paying for the things you use like nfrastructure, services like fire/police for a change? etc. Instead of big banks? Crying about paying the municipality you live in, so they can maybe do road work, hire more police instead of adding to big bank profits?

Or are you crying about paying 3.7% on $48,000 ( say 4K x 12 in land taxes) over 25 years…but not debt, part of the mortgage

Rather than 7% on more than 48,000 or whatever it cost developers for the same.

Or are you crying that solutions aren’t just more handouts and “free” $$ from big mommy?

And lastly, how the hell do you know Hamilton ‘s decision to hike land taxes 3.7% ( less than inflation) is related at all? Do their employees like administration, police, fire, and more not deserve a cup of coffee? So you not want road repairs, sewer and water main maintenance, Greenbelt and park maintenance, snow removal and more for free.

I see.

Your sympathy lies with developers who will make a profit whatever the fees are over the citizens of Hamilton who will have their taxes raised so those developers can make even more money?
That'll be a popular opinion at dinner parties.

Raise property taxes so that developers can get more rich!
The people demand it!!

Obviously critical thinking not a strong suit. Obviously not interested in potential solutions.
Obviously resents paying for the things you use.
Obviously thinks shit is free and municipalities don’t have budgets too. Don’t have employees that could use a cup of coffee.
Obviously just wants more free handouts

Free handouts is the Liberal way.
DoFo gave free handouts to developers and the city of Hamilton had to raise their taxes 3.69% to pay for those free handouts.
DoFo is the handout king, all you need to do is go to a family wedding.....

1) you obviously don’t understand the words “forget the controversy”

2) you obviously don’t follow politics

3) Have no clue how, why Municipalities raise land taxes…let alone understand budgets, and have zero proof this hike after years of high inflation has anything to do with Ford…You’ve just gobbled and swallowed and regurgitated whatever cow manure was fed to you.

Nor do you want to pay for the things you scream for and use as a resident of X municipality

Your solutions to everything, whether govt debt, municipal, provincial, federal, lack of Nurses, and many more, the environment, grid lock and more roads, more transit more , housing. Is always I want government to pay for it, or tax the Rich tax companies, tax people outside my municipality, my city…

I want and want and want. But please don’t send me the bill.

You don't even understand what this debate is about, do you?
For some reason you think making cities pay for sewage, water and services instead of developers is a tax break for the city.

You should add, "for new development" to your 2nd sentence.

You must think paying for the things you use, never mind all the staff that maintain them. Should be paid by someone else.

Nor do you understand inflation apparently, or tha road repairs, road expansions and far more. Aren’t free.

Nor do you seem to understand how debt and compounding interest work. The higher the debt, the more you pay greedy bank profits…and also the higher the down payment required.the higher the interest rates, the more banks profit

vs

fairly stable land taxes, that pay for the shit you use. And staff you need, in your community.

But you think the world is free and expect everyone else to subsidize you.

So you would be happy in your rural paradise if some developer used the DoFo deal to build a housing development right next door to you and your township had to raise your property taxes to pay for service hookups and then raised your property tax 50%? You would gladly pay that tax hike rather than get a 'free ride' and have developers and new home owners pay for urban spraw?

I sometimes wonder if you pay for anything. Aka live on your own, have moved out, and have bills because you just don’t seem to understand money. Or how the world works, never mind budgets, debt interest, or governance. All you do is want other people to pay for your wants. Be that the rich, companies, other people, or your children and grandchildren.

Nor given your latest, thoughtless, reply, do you understand how MPAC works.

btw, have you grasped yet that you brain cramped yet again, and Hamilton raising their rates has squat to do with Ford?

If you're unable to follow the conversation, don't join in.

Hamilton taxpayers can expect rate hikes to make up for $54M in lost development charges: city staff

Hamilton taxpayers will soon be picking up a $54-million tab for developers.

That's a direct result of recent provincial legislation that waives development charges for some types of projects — a major source of revenue the city has relied on to build new infrastructure like roads, sewers, parks and water and fire services, staff told council on Wednesday.

City staff said the $54-million loss was calculated by a consultant they hired in recent months.

The Ford government has not yet provided an alternative way for municipalities to make up the funding gap other than by taxing residents more, said Coun. Brad Clark (Ward 9).

"We have no choice," Clark said. "Our residents, our taxpayers, are going to be paying much more as a result of this stealthful downloading."

City staff estimate next year property taxes will need to increase by 2.8 per cent and water rates by 8.7 per cent, or else it will have to either delay building infrastructure to support population growth or reduce services.

Ok maybe it does, woo hoofor you. Out of thousands of threads and post Franky has moved out of his parents basement and maybe scored a point.

You still haven’t addressed many other things. Is it because you don’t understand money and debt, finances and budgets and still want everyone to subsidize you. Like your parents? That is ALWAYs your answer. I don’t want to pay my way. Don’t send me the bill.

Let’s broaden the topic a wee bit. Why did Harris download some cost to municipalities?

Could you cut out the insults, NGY?
Its boring and doesn't do anything but make you seem angry that you're wrong.

3 days into the legislation and DoFo has yet to honour his promise to undo the Greenbelt deals.
Instead today he's announcing he wants to spend $400 billion of your money on nuclear plants. Almost nobody is building nuclear any more, renewables are cheaper, faster, more moveable and don't leave toxic waste that will last thousands of years.

Maybe he hopes that will move the focus, it might but it won't be good.
Meanwhile Olivia Chow offered DoFo land in Exhibition Place instead of Ontario place for his $400 million parking lot to serve the 99 year spa lease he gave to other wedding guests.

Though really the best way to stop the Thermes spa would be to get DoFo to have Metrolinx build it.

I'm sure that young Torontonians still trying to get into their first home (or even their first apartment) are really looking forward to enjoying that greenbelt! They'd love to visit this lush wonderland - if they could afford the gas!
