I stand corrected.
Not that I'm disagreeing with the gist of your point, but with the wacky points system of the NHL you cannot accurately use percentages. In a game that goes past regulation the two teams combine for 150% in that game since one team gets 100% and the other gets 50%.won't it be such a season anyways? they are clearly not going to make the playoffs even if they have a win percentage of 66% for the remainder of the season...
for comparison, the league's best win percentage last year was 71%, only 5% MORE... anything over 60% and you are usually top 4 in standings in your division.
See I called it!Leafs'll get their 2nd win tomorrow against the Canes... if they don't it'll be a long, long season.
Lose 4-1. I'll put $$$ on it.Monster was good tonight. Carolina stinks but he was still good. How will they do against the Wings tomorrow?
The way I see it they will have to do it at some point if he is to be the number one, so now is as good a time as any. Coming off a win and going up against a good team not playing well in Detroit.Big question is will Wilson start the monster on consecutive nights. For the buds sake I hope so because Toskala is not the answer.
Finally we agree on something. Next you'll be saying that Alfie is going to have more points than Heatly this year. The way I see it they will have to do it at some point if he is to be the number one, so now is as good a time as any. Coming off a win and going up against a good team not playing well in Detroit.
If the points system in the NHL is so totally fucked up, then why do they do it that way? If I understand correctly how the NHL works right now, why not just go back to giving two points for a win and nothing if you lose, and then letting games end in a tie with one point each? Why this obsession with having every game have a 'winner' and a 'loser'? Since it's so fucked up, why not just fix it by going back to the reasonable points system? (This is an honest question, as I'm not arguing with you that it's fucked up - I agree that it is.)Not that I'm disagreeing with the gist of your point, but with the wacky points system of the NHL you cannot accurately use percentages. Points per game for a team in relation to the league average points per game for that particular season (since it will change from year to year--also totally fucked) would be somewhat more accurate.
I wish I had an answer for you. Maybe they're trying to be politically correct/sensitive and not hurt anybody's feelings by giving a point even if you lose.why not just go back to giving two points for a win and nothing if you lose, and then letting games end in a tie with one point each? yeah, I agree... but, to calculate divisional standings, percentages are the most telling stat. that is why nhl teams use it when comparing eachother. If I only have a few seconds to look at stats, I prefer my scout to have them all laid out in percentages...Not that I'm disagreeing with the gist of your point, but with the wacky points system of the NHL you cannot accurately use percentages.
I guess I was wrong. Will this win turn the Leafs' season around? At least get them into the playoffs? Can we hope?Lose 4-1. I'll put $$$ on it.Wow. You must really feel sorry for Florida and Carolina fans.
