call down to the front desk and complain your shitter is stopped up

Bruno will come up and plunge your shitter for you.

Of course it might hurt a bit. But hey you are at the Ritz.

Ritz

You are going to be disappointed at this Ritz.

Go to tripadvisor.com and read the reviews by people who have stayed there.

I did read some reviews on the travel sites. I just wanted to hear it from some fellow TERBites. I trust this community rather then some family bored on a Sunday after visiting montreal. Anyone else have any comments?

Try MERB

https://merb.cc

There are many threads on MERB that discuss hotels from a hobbyist`s POV. Just about every hotel in Montreal has been discussed. There is a looong thread on Priceline, as well as a Best Of thread.

As for SP friendliness, the Ritz should be OK. Just stay away from the Vogue and the Best Western, which have elevators that require room cards.

Vogue

I stay at the Vogue and never had a problem. Every agency and its girls know what to do.

They call you upon arrival and the girl goes past the bar to the circular staircase and walks up to to the 2 floor.

You come down in elevator to the 2 floor-there are a couple of chairs there and meet her and take her to your room. very private.

Or better yet get a room on the second floor and she can just come to your door and knock.

Great hotel.

Also look at the Sofitel, Le Germaine, new W, and many of the boutique hotels in Old montreal.

The Ritz is in a decent location. An easy walk to restaurants and bars in the Cresent st area. Beds are comfortable . The rest of the furniture would remind you of your grandmothers living room.

It's an older smaller hotel not far from the Soffitel . A landmark in Montreal . 40 years ago my parents called it "The Place" to stay. You will see a bunch of blue hair and pearls there.

I haven't been there for 3 or 4 years so I can't tell you if it's been upgraded recently. There were better deals/places around so it was easy to go elsewhere.

No problem for sp's.

I favour the boutique hotels in old Montreal such as the St Sulpice.

the worst ritz i have ever been in...expensive(i think my night was around 700, although don't quote me on this)..old..shower hardly worked...towels looked like they had been dragged through the wash too many times..
only good thing about it was it was close to everything..just a complete diappointment!

Man oh man. With all these bad reviews I don't know what to do. I am booked in their largest suite, so I am not sure what to expect. I have already tried looking at other hotels but the only rooms left are crap. I think I am just going to have to bite the bullet on this one. They say it is their best room, so I think I won't be TOO disappointed.

As for SP friendliness, I am going with one so I shouldn't have a problem.

Sorry guys, this time a review will not follow. Unless you say pretty please..... ;)

the Ritz is old and tired.....try the Sofitel two blocks east on Sherbrooke or the Omni at Sherbrook and Peel. Both way better.

Just got back from Montreal. I should have listened. The Ritz Carlton Montreal is a shithole. I was in there best room, and still felt like it was crap. They over charge for everything. I checked out right away. I am shocked that the Ritz still lets this place use their name. The hotel needs a serious renovation.

So for any TERBites, don't go to the Ritz in Montreal.

They must paid off these guys for 5 star rating

Frommer's highly rated hotels in no particular order are: Omni, Fairmont QE, Sofitel

Frommer did say hotel is 'historic'. Sort of like old wings of Fairmont Royal York with the 10x10 rms.

My Montreal lodging experience were 2-3 star variety from group trips, gatherings, rests are with many friends and relatives in the city of Bagels, Corn Beef sandwich & Ste Catherine.
