If you remember back a few shows when Tony & Carmela went up to visit Bobby and Janice at the lake, Bobby & Tony went for a boat ride. They started discussing hunting, and Bobby's father life as a mob hit man. Bobby made the comment "you don't even hear it coming and everything goes black" in reference to death by violence.

David Chase just "wacked" the audience....the scene in Holstens was shot from his (Tony's) perspective as he was watching Meadow enter the diner, and he got it in the head from behind...the sudden cut to black....he didn't hear it coming...

Well...there was just black and no screaming from either Carmela or AJ. Which means...we got "whacked". :)

If there is no movie I still love the way it ended

everything is the same way it started, this is the life that tony choose always watching his back thinking his going to get wacked and from the Government.

The best ending I think like serpent said we got wacked

:D

Chase Genius

I thought it was an appropriate way to end a fantastic series. Journey on the table jukebox, a seemingly happy family together in a greasy spoon, it was a full 180 from the beginning of the series.

And, the door was left open for future projects....

JB

PS I thought the scene outside Satriale's with Tony and Paulie (I saw the Virgin Mary in the club....why didn't you say, F the strippers we coulda made millions) was brilliant.

Finale was brilliant...the show began & ended with family, that's what it was always about...and Chase will leave us forever wondering if Tony walked out of that restaurant alive....

Will there be a movie? I say no way...Chase accomplished everything he set out to do...movies would just diminish the impact.

Maybe he was whacked? Maybe he passed out? After all, didn't he have anxiety attacks so maybe he just plain fainted?

Artistically a very interesting ending, but not a popular one.

He hadn't had anxiety attacks in quite a while...a sign that he was the right track (well, as much as a mob boss can be)...

Phil never saw it coming, neither did Tony. I've replayed the last scene a bunch of times and the last thing you see is Tony looking up with surprise/attention, and the music playing "Don't stop believing", possibly seeing Meadow coming in the door, or looking at his killer raising a gun. The whole appeal of the show is that we are meant to live vicariously through the Mob Boss, and we never saw or felt the end. We all died with Tony.

Exactly... Chase whacked us all! The ending has kinda grown on me. I wasn't down with it at first.

Interesting to find out that agent Harris wasn't such a good guy.

Paulie & the cat was hilarious! :D

I have mixed feelings about the final episode. I loved the parallel of first AJ and then almost a deju vu with Tony and the psychiatrist (with Carmella conveniently in the bathroom so Tony would be alone with her). However, I think it was a big tease to see (at the end of the last episode and beginning of the finale) Tony sleeping with that BFG assault weapon and never get to see it fired.

We got to see it fired in the episode when Bobby gave it to Tony as a gift up at the cottage. It is a fully automatic AR-10. Tony fires it off into the woods.

From Pat Buchanan:

He wanted to let your own mind create, let everybody create their own ending. For me it was those two guys up at the thing who were coming in, those dark guys --- I thought, those are the guys that are gonna do it.
Pat thinking it would be "the dark guys"? Color me surprised.

Hey guys...not to make too fine a point here, but I was the one who came up with the idea of David Chase "whacking" the audience....

Serpent may agree with me, but he just quoted my thread.

Although others on different Soprano forum boards came to much the same conclusion as I did, I came up with the idea myself within an hour of the show ending.;)

Which I'm sure was 59 minutes after a great many other people came up with the idea. ;)

That's too bad, I came up with it when my tv screen blanked out :)
