I also didn't like the ending at first but it really has grown on me and to me, Tony got whacked. Period. That's the way I want to remember it. I'm glad we were spared the scene but I can picture Meadow screaming in hysterics as the shooter drops the gun and brushes past her on his way out of the diner; AJ crying with some of Tony's brains on his shirt; Carmela just sitting there in stunned silence slipping into shock; and that big fat fuck slumped over the table with a growing pool of crimson steadily spreading around the bowl of onion rings that they were all sharing just moments before.

I also thought that it was a great homage to the scene from the Godfather where Michael returns from the bathroom and does his first hit.

And on the other hand - I don't believe Tony got hit.

A Mob hit would involve tailing the target or having a regular place staked out. The former is relatively remote since they never showed us anyone tailing Tony and the latter is impossible since Tony and family made a sudden decision to eat at that particular joint.

Plus, why would the shooter step into the john, he could have popped him right away, no?

Don't forget that...

after the guy at the counter went to the men's room a couple of Afro American gentlemen shuffled in...Could they have been the hit men???Maybe, we will never know...Finally I have heard that Meadow has enrolled in driver training instead of law school... ..

That's when I knew they were narcs, if they'd been wiseguys I'd be dead.

For those that didn't think that the ending of The Sopranos was anything less than brilliant needs a lesson in the Cosa Nostra Code.

In Season 1, Tony garroted an informer, even though he had spared Tony and Meadow's life earlier in the episode, for breaking the code of silence. In Made in America, Tony broke the code of execution: No target shall be dispatched in front of his wife or mother.

Tony and his family got whacked by Mrs Leotardo.

There will be no film, unless you're willing to pay money to watch a film about Janice.

It seems like a lot of very popular shows have real trouble coming up with a good series finale.
Well, as with everything else, you can't satisfy everyone. I thought it was pretty good actually, better than most really.

Well, the bathroom was behind Tony. It would be easier to shoot him coming up from behind than approaching him from the front.

Exactly, the bathroom was behind Tony and the last shot of him was looking towards the door indicating that he was looking at someone who was approaching the table from the front. We are then left to assume that it was Meadow he was looking at.

I think they should have ended it on the second last show where Tony is left lying in bed clutching his machine gun.

As for movie or other I think it would be great to do a prequel shot in the 50's and 60's with Junior and Johnny boy, a young Paulie etc

Heaven, definately Heaven
It worked.

The goal was to get everyone talking about it. Oh yeah. At least 2 years to sell the DVDs, re-runs, foreign market milking (and no doubt a top secret filming of additional scenes right from that Journey record (side 1, cut 1 of Escape 1982). Then in 3 years, you'll be in the theatre ready to watch A BUGS LIFE 2 (or 3) and the trailer will show-up, the camera will pan back, a pair of eyes and look who's face it is: Tony Soprano.

The ending was brilliant, but if you wanted to see a whacking you should have seen Vincent Kennedy McMahon get whacked at the end of Raw on Monday Night when his limo exploded.
