Runescape is a popular game, and you can play as a non-member. Members get lots of perks, but play as a non-member can still be satisfying.
Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory is a free game. First person shooter, 3-4 years old or so. There's a newer one, QuakeWars ET or some such that is not free and based on a newer game engine.

To each his own.

Personally, I find WoW to be a great way to relax after a stressful work day. I just mindless hack and slash away at solo PVE. If I'm feeling a bit gregarious, I have the option to group for instances, quests or raids. Or I can chat with other players.

I can relate to what T-2000's saying. Sometimes I get caught up in the game. Then I find myself getting to work really late all the time. That's when I just find something else to do for a few months. If I'm still into the game, ok. If not, I'd ebay my accounts. Mind you, I should stop playing on the U.S. Pacific servers. :)

Ideally, play it, but don't live it.

However, I miss playing Ultima Online. Just because it was so profitable. When I quit the game, I ebay'd 3 castles at USD 700+ each, and 7 keeps at USD 500+ each. Not to mention all the 2-storeys I sold at USD 100+ each. I don't miss the PK'ers and other grief players though.

Holy smokes. you make 100 bucks and 500 bucks and 700 bucks just by playing games?? I'll check Ultima out. if I can make that kind of money on "hobby time".

I used to get "caught" up in a game called Counterstrike, for hours and hours. Me and my buddy used to log in at a internet cafe at around 7 in the evening and come out of the internet cafe at 5 in the morning, when the sun was coming up. We'd stop at the coffee shop down the block and grab a drink of coffee to wake up a lil bit and head straight to work from there. We were scheduled to work first thing in the morning. That's the most extreme case.

Sometimes we'd log in at 11pm and come out at 3-4am. But that wasn't too bad. we'd get some sleep at least.

Good times. These are the things that friendships are made of.

Its like, the stuff you remember.

I still love that game, btw.

That was years ago when the U.S. dollar was high. Can't make any money from UO now. Also, it wasn't 100, 500 and 700. You have to multiply them out. :)
