Army men, matchbox cars, skintight jeans, burning bugs with a magnifying glass, LP's, saturday morning cartoons (especially Scooby Doo), LSD, beach parties, having a head full of hair, pool hopping, Thrills gum, having my meals cooked and clothes washed, unprotected sex, $5 Blue Jays bleacher tickets, free concerts at Ontario Place.
Voltron, Battle of the Planets/G-Force, Force Five, Loony Toons, Tom and Jerry.
Playing with lighters, riding bikes to distant corner stores, atomic fireball (hot cinammon jawbreakers), sour keys, dr pepper, mexicito chips that were so spicy that it was hard to finish a bag, playing video games at the arcade, firecrackers, fireworks, paper airplanes, putting roman candles in a pop bottle and shooting each other with them,
Glad someone mentioned the steel vs plastic playsets in playgrounds.
Can't believe that someone else also found porno mags stashed by the creek it was better than finding money.

Bill Cosby stand up albums on vinyl, Monty Python records (didn't get half the jokes but it was still hilarious), 80s music in general but glam metal as my fav.

While you people have covered most things I miss the one thing that made me want to be a teenage male more then anything....the french language teacher and her short...and I mean short skirts. I can't help but smile now when I think back...

I used to go to the York Woods Variety Store at Jane and Finch where they featured wrapped chocolate bars and bulk (before there reallyt was a bulk revival). The bulk chocolates were hershey bars - the flat kind. They were 3 cents each and wrapped hershey bars were a dime. I would hold up 3 in a stack and ask how much? I flew a lot of kites and balsa wood planes. I owned a Coleco CB40. I played table hockey with my brother. I went to the Library and discovered henry Higgins and the hardy Boys. Hey if we cant admit these things now... I congregated with friends in Black Creek to smoke cigarettes. I typically hate reminiscences of the past as there is a tendency for them to be either overly maudlin or falsely positive (like the perma smiles on Happy Days when nothing bad ever happened). However, this has been one damn good thread.
On the serious side, it is hard to argue with the desire to return to a safer time when we didn't have to worry about terrorism, and children could walk (reasonably) freely through our neighbourhoods.
On the lighter side, I share others' great memories of sweet tarts, lolas, masturbation (that one made me laugh) and flying kites. I also think back to discovering Elvis Costello, The Talking Heads and The Clash. There was also the discovery of The Runaways, but the interest there wasn't really musical was it?

btw: I've heard some say we didnt have to worry about leches in our day because it was the access to all this erotica that raised a generation of perverts. I say it happened then as well as now, but our parents, teachers, and authorities sheltered us from the awful truth. Remember we still learned as children -- dont talk to strangers, dont take candy from strangers, etc... We just were never told the entire reason why. I can easily tell my kids, I dont want someone to "Holly Jones" or "Cecilia Jhiang" you.
