This is Really Becoming Annoying!

I have an answering machine at home to field my calls while I'm at work (generic computerized message - short and sweet). For the past few weeks, almost every other day I've gotten messages from various individuals that go as follows:

"Hello, may I speak with "drlove" please.... hello???"

Now, my question is, how difficult can it be to discern an answering machine greeting when one hears it?? I can't return these moron's calls since I have no idea who they are. If I could, I'd be the first one to tell them to clue in. No one can be that stupid, or can they??

As a rule - never underestimate how stupid or lazy most people are.

I generally apply that rule universally, in that case I'm rarely if ever disappointed.

Did you see the Lenno show last night with Seifeld? Gerry did a routine that talked about the answering machine and the beep. He was berating people for telling the caller to leave a detailed message after the beep. "In the 21st century everyone knows what the beep means."

Apparently not.

There is a benign reason for this

This may happen due to several reasons. First, many people don't pick the phones (may be due to lack of caller ID or blocked number) and screen calls till they hear a familiar voice.

People do this because either they have a bad credit or want to avoid waste telemarketing call.

The strategy is simple. If you hear a familiar voice on the machine then pick up the phone else let the answering machine running.

This may also happen if your answering machine goes off after two rings. Most people can't pick the phone up in two rings because either they are in shower or simply hobbying
