Do you really think a Tim Hudak government would be any better?
If Hudak can run a reasonably competent government -- then yes, he would be better.

Forget the HST. What's truly shocking about the McGuinty government in its second term is how incompetent it is. Pick whatever area you like -- health care (eHealth scandal), education (paying full-time elementary teachers to be babysitters in junior kindergarten classes), jobs and the economy (the Second Career fiasco) -- everything McGuinty touches turns to crap.

Its bungled introduction of the HST is only the latest example.

Even supporters of the Liberal agenda have to admit this government has passed its best-before date. Time to toss them out.

Probably not but it's difficult to argue against the need to fire someone who has accomplished nothing in seven years and has watched Ontario become a have not province under his watch.

Perhaps the worst Ontario Premier in history from an enivironment, employment and budgetary deficit standpoint.

  • 93% of Ontario taxpayers will get a personal income tax cut on January 1, 2010.
  • All Ontario taxpayers will see a 16.5% cut in the tax rate on their first $37,106 of taxable income - that's the lowest rate of any province in Canada.
  • Ontario families and individuals with up to $80,000 of income will get an average personal income tax cut of 10%.
Transition payments:
  • Eligible families - including single parents and senior couples - with an annual income below $160,000 will receive three payments totalling $1,000.
  • Eligible individuals with an annual income below $80,000 will receive three payments totalling $300
.

What's Taxable Under the HST and What's Not? http://www.rev.gov.on.ca/en/taxchange/taxable.html
I have not seen any of these take effect, period. My family has an annual income below $160,000.00 and i dont receive a penny (btw, how do they determine who's eligible?). I make less than $80,000.00 annually, and i dont receive any transition payments either. My income tax has NOT gone down.

Techincally speaking, Gyms should be dropping their fees. They will now be allowed to deduct all the PST items in the past.

Many experts agree.
Many economists, businesses and investors say that a single, value-added sales tax like the HST is the most important thing we can do to strengthen Ontario's economy.

I'm assuming you're one of those sheeple who believes everything the government tells you because if you believe these so called "experts" (who most likely have invested interests in the HST and are probably making a profit of your money) I guess you were believeing the Weapons of Mass Destruction madness and all that G.W.Bush BS too.

I just bought a new laptop computer, there was a $2.75 environmental tax. I asked WTF is this I'm not disposing anything? Apparently it's a tax collected in advance for when you dispose of the computer 4 or 5 years down the road. Fuck me.

Bring back Mike Harris, one of the only politicians i really liked. Cut taxes, cut services, cut socialism....

If it wasnt for Harris we would we all be enjoying photo radar...just another tax.
Harris tax cuts were short lived, McGuinty made sure to reinstate them....900 a year health tax...but its not a "tax" you just have to pay it....now ECO tax...but its not a tax its a fee...you just have to pay it......HST..you pay more, but trust me its actually better...??? WTF???

  • I don't understand these two points. According to the government data, the first $37,106 of taxable income will receive a tax cut of 1% from 21.05% to 20.05%. Even in respect to savings over 2009's tax rate, that's a decline of <5%. so I have no idea where you are getting this 16.5% figure.

And giving families with income under $80,000 a 10% tax break is reeeeeeeally overcompensating, so I have a hard time believing that one too.

Everyone knows how fair and un-biased the media is, whether its the Toronto Star or the CTV Network.

During the last Federal election campaign I went to an all-candidates debate where the good-old-boy Conservative (incumbent) candidate declared that Medicare in Canada was introduced and brought in by John Diefenbaker. Oddly enough, the following day the local media didn't mention he made that statement.

I'm left wondering how many people vote based solely on what they read or hear from the media.
Tommy Douglas, with the help of Lester Pearson.

Let's not throw him out while the only alternative is Tim Hudak--talk about jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

The problem with McGuinty is that he has essentially no ideas at, no vision, no plan, nothing. However whenever he does get ahold of something he implements it competently.

He is a reasonably good "caretaker" premier and that's good enough until there's a credible alternative I trust McGuinty not to do very much, which includes not doing much that fucks anything up.

For all the bitching and moaning his "big" initiatives are pretty trivial and minor things like HST.

A good "caretaker" huh? He's taken such great care of the Province that we are now a have not Province receiving transfer payments. Hmmmm..... paying over 40% income tax, a 13% consumption tax, health care tax, gas tax, etc.. Why not just make us all civil servants and call us comrades.

Ontario's structural problems as a manufacturing economy in a world where manufacturing jobs are moving to developing nations aren't really due to McGuinty, it's affecting all similar economies in North America in the same way.

You're being a little foolish.

It may be. It may not. But if he fucks up, vote his ass out, too. And to the next politician after him that fucks up.

If we do this, all politicians regardless of party will realize if they promise one thing and do another or do not work in the best interests of the majority that brought them to power, they will be out on their ass in the end.

Maybe then, the term "honest politician" won't be an oxymoron.

I found that the province had deposited $330 into my bank account a while ago and I received a letter promising further deposits. These are not ideal solutions but at least they compensate me for any additional sales taxes I'm likely to pay in the short term. This switch to a value added tax is long overdue and I doubt very much that Hudak would scrap it even if he could.
