I've read and heard of the horror stories with tigerdirect and their rebates.
I wanna know about first hand accounts, any of you deal with them and the rebates. How did it turn out?

Not first hand but

I have heard the same...bought a 19 widescreen monitor for $180 something recently even though there was one for $205.00 with a $50.00 dollar mail in rebate ($155.00)Did not want to take the chance of never seeing the rebate. Still this was a very low price, lower than college st strip stores... 19" widescreens were $219.00 there.

The rebates are a hassle but I have eventually always got mine. Takes 4-8 weeks, just like they tell you it will.

They gamble that you won't actually go through with the hassle of filling them out. In these days of instant e-mail and internet gratification, many people won't fill out a form, put it in snail mail along with a 0.50 stamp, wait 8 weeks for a $50 cheque and then deposit that to a bank.

Having said that, if the difference was less than $10 net, I wouldn't go the rebate route either.

Offstage, instrument tuned.
I don't buy anything from them with the rebates anymore...at least twice the rebates took more than 4 months, and on one occasion it took 6 months. I just choose an alternate product or accept that the price without rebate when it is competitive.

yeah , I hate those rebates. The few times I've done them , it took at least 2 months. I had one that never showed up, so I called them and they issued another cheque.

That's the reason I hate them , the one that didn't show up was supposedly cancelled and another cheque issued , but who knows if they even sent it in the first place.

they make you jump through hoops and if you don't remember a couple of months down the road , just means more $ in the bank for them.

My experiences have been with TigerDirect USA in Illinois.

In most cases, I've gotten the rebate, but it will take a long, long time. Don't hold your breath. If you get it within 2 months, count yourself lucky.

At least at TigerDirect USA, they claim that they have a "Rebate Guarantee." They even have a special website and instructions for that, telling you all these procedures you can follow to get a rebate that's late, to give you a warm fuzzy. I've never had to go to that extent, but I kind of doubt if that gets you anywhere.

I did have one manufacturer weasel out of giving me a rebate, because they claimed that I "forgot" to attach the original receipt. I did; they were just too lazy to go through all the stuff I sent them. Since it was only for $10, I didn't feel like arguing with them.

If you want to increase the odds of getting the rebate and reduce the time it takes, you must pay the extortion charge. Onrebate which is owned by tigerdirect, has the option of paying something like 5 bucks to quickly deposit the rebate funds into you paypal account.

For my last rebate I was waiting for like 2 months and nothing came, then I decided to pay the extortion charge and like 3 days later I got my rebate in my paypal.
