Time to kill off the penny???

An American penny costs 1.4¢ to make (it is mostly made of zinc - which is relatively expensive - with a copper coating).
A Canadian penny costs 0.008¢ to make (steel with a copper coating)

Pennies are now so valueless, there is little point in retaining them in circulation. How often have you seen a penny simply lying in the gutter with no-one even bothering to pick it up?!
We should do what the French did, back before the Euro. The lowest denomination coin was a 5 centime piece.

a penny is worthless... if I see one on the floor, or even 50 I wouldn't bother picking it up, I just don't give a shit. 
How's anyone seen that homeless guy downtown called the "Penny King?", he'll have to change up to the "Nickle King", but with 5 pennies to the nickle he'll only have enough to spell "Nick"
Pennies are so annoying. If I have a bunch of them, I make extra effort to get rid of them. For example, going to McD's or some place. The check is $5.01. I'll gladly cough up a penny before getting a wallet full of more change.

Now you need them even more with Harper changing the tax to 14%. I continously empty them out of my pocket.
