Todd Bertuzzi Suspension...How Long?

G

GlavaMan

I like Bert but the way he suckered Steve Moore & drove his head into the ice was just nasty & premeditated. The Canucks said they were going to get him & they did. I think Bertuzzi should get five games but he will likely only get two.

while i agree that the original hit on naslund was on the cheap side it is in no way enough to justify what bertuzzi did. if it had just been the sucker punch from behind and that's it, okay, but to drive moore's head right in to the 2 inch think ice and concrete below warrants a little bit more than five games. I think he'll be lucky if he gets back in to a game this season.

I don't hate the violence in hockey and agree that you have to stick up for teammates and all the rest of the hockey code of respect but this incident just took it way to far.

Moore wasn't given a penalty on the open-ice check against Naslund. He later apologized in the media. When it happened May kicked the crap out of him. Should have been enough. Though May talked about more retribution the teams played to a 5-5 tie without incident last Wednesday.
Last night the game started with Moore dropping the gloves with Matt Cooke in the first. Again, should have been enough. Moore had already answered the bell.
Bertuzzi was brutal in going after Moore. He had a clear, premeditated intent to injure.

GlavaMan - I dont have a big problem with what Todd did for the simple fact that it sent the message, if you take a shot at our best player we'll mess you up. Now if Moore hadnt injured Naslund then it would be totally different, but given the circumstances, I wouldnt crucify him over it like everyone else seems to be doing.

The guys on TSN are totally whacked, comparing this to the McSorley/Brashear incident. Kathleen

Kathleen, what have you been smoking ???. You're dead wrong ! The incident was similar if not worse than the Brashear-McSorley incident - the predatory way Bertuzzi went after Moore, sucker punching him from behind, knocking him to the ice unconscious, face first no less ! and then falling on him with an elbow to the back of the head. Bertuzzi's gone, for a long time, no doubt aboot it !

I Once Liked Bertuzzi...

The hit Moore on Naslund was nothing. Is there checking in the NHL? yes. Was Moore's hit legal? Yes. Just because a guy has lost his edge does not make the hit illegal. Just because the hit is on a star play does not make it illegal. There are not two sets of rules.

The attack on Moore was 100% pre-meditated and also from behind. Once the game was not in doubt Bertuzzi the coward attacks from behind.

Vancouver have 13 games left in the regular season. That I suspect will be the punishment for Bertuzzi. Crawford, a raving lunatic, will also get some time. Rumour has it he was laughing while Moore was lying in a pool of his own blood.

I love this game, but if it is to be taken seriously then this crap has to stop. Policing your own is a load of crap. The players will always try to get away with what they can.

While I haven't seen video yet, after reading the paper and this thread, I believe Todd will get 10 games for what happened last night.
Ho should probably be gone for the season, but the 10 games is enough of a penalty to the Canucks.

I disagree Kathleen. I've been around hockey a long time to know the difference between payback and going over the line.

This was clearly a premeditated incident and Bertuzzi could have done some serious harm by driving Moore's head into the ice. This is certainly like the McSorley/Brashear and Hunter/Turgeon incidents. I'm thinking anywhere betwen 10 to 20 games for this.

Not only was this a nasty and stupid , it was a selfish. His team will be without him for awhile.

Total unacceptable and what pissed me of the most was the f*cking Vancouver coach "Crawford" laughing about the incident. Well, he isn't going to be laughing to hard now.

By the way, did you see the game the other night when Shayne Corson was going off the ice in Dallas and he challenged Sharks Coach Tim Hunter. Hunter would have pounded the crap out of him. What was Shayne thinking?

Asm I woke up this morning I heard on the radio about this hit. I thought it was real nasty. Upon seeing it on TV it doesn't look as bad as it sounds. However, what Bertuzzi did was unreprehesible. This is what gives hockey the bad rap. Two guys dropping the gloves and going at it is fine. Following a guy around the rink, tugging his shirt and sucker punching him for payback is utter childness. I would suspend him for a long time for this just to send the message that this kind of stupidity is not wanted nor warrented in the league. But we all know how the league works and the max he will get is 8 games - should be longer though.

The rest of the season and then some i.e 2 playoffs at minimum. He's a repeat offender and it could be argued that it was pre-meditated and revenge.

Kathleen... 2 games!?! Not even close. It reminded me of the Hunter hit/attack on Turgeon oh so many years ago. It was a stupid act by a player who should have known better... 10 games minimum.

I cant believe im agreeing with Pansey. BUt it was totally way tooooo much. Any kind of attack from behind is totally cowaardly and against all written and unwritten rules....go at him face to face...Its obvious the Canucks werent going to be happy until Moore was bleeding or hurt. Thats sad! How many times do you have to "try" to get redemption. Their attemps have been mentioned here, May , Cooke, Deal with it and move on. Bert showed total lack of any decency in how he went about it. kathleen i think you are way off base on this one. Deal with it like men. Men dont sucker punch from behind

Thanks Cnd-Guy.

After seeing the video, as well as the video of Moore's hit on Naslund, I am shocked. There is NO excuse for Bertuzzi's actions last night. As much as I hate to disagree with Kathleen, Bertuzzi should be suspended either to the end of the playoffs or untill Moore comes back, whichever is longer.

What a farking tool.

All you Bert fans prepare yourself. He already has had a 10 game suspension in the past and a repaet offender. He is getting the 13 games remaining in the season as a minimum and then likely adding either 2 playoff games or one full playoff round. I like his grit but he is obviously a cement head.

For the money these guys get paid, you have to wonder what goes through their heads sometimes.

disagree ... Moore was in the process of checking him and Naslund decided to stretch for the puck lowering his head ...pretty difficult to get out of the way on something like that . Would have been interesting to see what the Canucks would have done if that was Scott Stevens laying out Naslund

(sorry I don't know how to do the link thing)

Oct 2001 - 10 games for Bertuzzi in a game vs. Colorado no less

Burkeys comments - says he applauds Bertuzzi for what he did.

I wonder if he is applauding today for last night.

Moores hit was a split second decision...Naslund did totally lean out of the way and Moore moved to hit him too...he tried to avoid the hit and Moore caught him leaning. To m e its clear. Bert had over a week to plan retaliation and there have been many attempts to settle the score. Bert was an idiot and deserves huge repercusions. Im not a fan of either team but can not see how any attempt to defend what Bert did can be justified. Sucker punches and blind attacks are never cool. Throw the book at him!Paul you cant say Moore could have avoided it...if you play hockey you know that these guys are going full speed and sometimes when some one changes direction on you your first instinct is to try to catch even a small piece of them. Im not saying what Moore did didnt deserve some retatliation but NOT what Bert did.

Kathleen,
Everyone who knows anything about hockey, coaches, players, commentators alike are unanimous in calling out for a significant suspension against Bertuzzi. And you're calling for 2 games ??? You ocassionally make the odd good point (albeit you post a lot) but you were totally off base here. Did you even see the incident ?

Not a hockey fan but after listening to the radio this morning (especially Kevin Sylvester on the CBC) and reading the posts here I must agree with Kathleen.

Okay so I chose just a few words from what she wrote.

Kathleen you are digging a deeper hole as far as im concerned. There is NO excuse at all. maybe Moore deserved something but not that. Geez, that was just brutal. I have watched it and watched it over and over..I get pissed at Bert each time i see it! But i dont want to hit him from behind and tackle him to the ground smashing his face into the ice. Id face him grab him and fight. And to see that geek, Crawford laughing on the bench while Moore lays there in a pool of blood...real nice! Then he does the post game press conference saying how badly Bert feels and that Crow cares and hopes he feels better...why did you laugh then?...Its absurd to think this is OK. retribution taken appropriately is OK but this was not appropriate.
kat you started at 2 games now you have moved to 8...keep going dear
