Neil roomed with my late brother in law in some walk up off yorkville avenue in 65, ehh. They were both into folk music and weed, ehh. So yer not saying that Neil Young is some kinda Merkan. Just cos Neil Young went 'n worked down across de border afterwudz. Still don't change he's Knajan.
Yes, lots of Canadians go live in the U.S...Is Burton Cummings not Canadian anymore? How about Wayne Gretzky...

I remember Toronto back in the early 70's. No record industry. No club scene, aside from some folk clubs in Yorkville and a couple of venues on Yonge. And the city itself was not yet large and very, very puritan. You couldn't buy a beer on Sunday ffs!

I am pretty sure that any musician who had enough talent for a serious career hit out for LA or NYC as quickly as possible.

Not a Greatest list, but these are seven American Albums I brought and listened to often when I listed to full albums, (not in any order):

Ramones - Rocket to Russia

Iggy and the Stooges - Raw Power

Television - Marquee Moon

Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes - Hearts of Stone

Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul - Men Without Women

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band - Live in The Promised Land (Winterland, San Francisco December 15, 1978).

I had the three disk vinyl many years ago.

Nine Inch Nails - When the Whip Comes Down, (Live at Woodstock '94) - awesome sound quality on the KTS, (Kiss the Stone) CD.

The last two are bootlegs; I prefer spontaneity in music and performance quality over sound quality and production.

I think the greatest album is the Metallica album - Master of Puppets. Each song in it tells its own separate story, but at the same time, all the songs in the album are also part of a big story, which everyone understands differently. Of course, to understand the canonical warehouse of what their songs are about in this album, you need to study the history of this band, their ups and downs, feel their loss at the death of the bassist, and only then you will feel unity with the songs in the album. I know many amw who have used their music for their animated commercials. It's not for nothing that people return to the work of Metallica again and again because their music is a kind of standard that defines other bands. People say things like "it's heavier than Metallica" or "it's lighter than Metallica," you know.

Since we're doing rock threads, why don't we have one for the top 10 American Rock Albums? Everyone nominate their favourite(s) and I'll set up a new thread with a poll for the 10 most nominated and we'll vote and rank them??

So I'll start the ball rolling. My noms:

1. "Doolittle" The Pixies.

2. "American Beauty" The Grateful Dead.

3. "For Everyman" Jackson Browne

4. "The River" Bruce Springsteen.
For Everyman.
