Just finished watching the news and the topic of TTC Fares came up...

By tomorrow the fare for an adult to travel on the bus is $2.50!! What are some of your thoughts about this?

it only makes sense IF...

we [the TTC users] got more subway trains [a line along all of eglington or steeles ave over to the airport would be great!!!

but since politicks always seems to get in the way of "getting the job done"... i will not hold my breath...

cars are so much more flexible, they dont go on strike and they dont randomly increase fairs [other than random fluctuations in petrol pricing.. :( ]

it would definately help if Canada's largest city actually got back something even vaguely similar to the amount we pay in taxes and other junk like that.

blah.

cars are looking more and more effective to me.

meh!

They are always out of money, but have the money to build those fancy new bus stops that are lighted which they are making money off by selling advertising space.

Makes you think!

I'll just end up buying a car now...or take taxi all over the place...this city is starting to make me sick! It's over priced to even "try" to live here and plus as a woman I am scared to walk on the street at night alone! Geeze really makes me want to move outside of the GTA!

I think it's wonderful! I love paying higher fees for less service! I'm even more enthusiastic about the fact that the people of Toronto pay millions more tax dollars than we get back in services, and when we want to reduce costs in our transit system, we need to beg the federal and provincial governments to give us back our own money! I think it's great that they always refuse! I even think it was wonderful that this and many other recent fare increases could have been forstalled had Mel not built his insane "Subway Line to Nowhere" in Don Mills!

I am so very happy!

(Was it clear I was being sarcastic?)

Moet, you think it's overpriced yet you're considering getting a car or taking a taxi??
I think it's still a good value, but it's a shame that the TTC isn't supported by higher governments like it used to be. I'd like to see a gas tax that would help them and encourage businesses to give out metropasses to their employees like they hand out parking spaces.

Car and taxi are nice, but depending on where you live, any other methods of transportation? In the summer, I cycle if and when possible. This way I get some semblence of a workout, and save money on gas, and don't pollute as much.

I have a friend who cycles (in the summer months) to work from Kipling and Dixon to Yonge and Dundas every day. Thats pretty good.

Car has all the other costs.

1. Gas
2. Wear and Tear
3. Parking

Taxi, well, the Taxi generally starts off with $2.50 on the tab

So, the bus is still better, and I think people should continue to take the TTC, but I would like the TTC to be FULLY AUDITED by an un-biased external auditor. I think there's some scam going on there. Plus the bus drivers and the equipment need a major clean up. I love taking Mississauga/York/Brampton transit. The buses are clean, and the drivers are very nice...unlike the a-holes on the TTC.

Talk about GTA Transit Authority

The whole transportation policy in the GTA needed to be review. A provinical body should be responsible for public transportation for the Golden Horse Shoe. A new transit system made up of previous entities of TTC, Go transit York region Missisauga transit will co-ordinated public transportaion in the GTA and the Golden Horse Shoe. We can look at the BC Transit and Montreal Transit model for reference. I believe the Province and federal government should contribute more to fund public transportation

I've had it with the TTC. I'm done with fare hikes every second, delays along the Yonge subway line and being held up for 10-30min and becoming late for work due to delays along the line. A normal time to go from Sheppard station to Bloor should only take 20min or less but with all the delays (medical emergency's) sometimes I'm waiting 30min alone for the train to start again. This year alone I must have had to take a shuttle bus from Shepp to Bloor 4 times. I've also had to get off the train after I've paid my $ and take a cab (more money spent) to work because "We Are Experiencing A Medical Emergency Alone The Yonge Line, All Trains Will Be Delayed Until Further Notice". I mean you can only tell your boss you're 20min late for work because of the TTC so many times before he says you're fired.

Next month I'm buying a scooter for transportation to and from work Mon-Fri.
$3000. tax inc brand new, $5-$10. a week gas, $300. a year insurance, legal to park anywhere for FREE.

I'm done with the TTC. I'll only use it from Oct- March and when it rains very heavily..

TTC sucks

There is no way to fix the TTC without raising taxes through the roof and increasing fares to $10. The city is just to damned big and the weather too extreme. Waiting 30 minutes for a night bus on a -20 night is not acceptable. How about a nurse getting out after a late shift and waiting 20 minutes alone in f*cking Parkdale or Agincourt? If our utopian City Councilors had their way, we'd be spending more time outside in this tundra than all the Russians Stalin sent to Siberia.

Seing as nobody lives on Neptune, Canada is the frozen hell of the Universe so far as humans are concerned. What we need is a subway line under every other major street across the grid, not a measly fraction of what ancient cities like Paris & London have. Failling that, the money would be better spent to give working people & students a subsidy for personal transportation, or to dismantle the auto-insurance racket.

My insurance coverage lapsed, so I've been stuck without a car since 2001. I'm about this close to being willing to suck dicks if it got me a plated vehicle, or at least insurance under $3000. I have broken down more than once after taking +90 minutes to make a trip I would drive in 20-25 minutes tops at any time of day. I'm spending more on taxi's every month than many of you spend on SP's & MPs. Most of the time I really just want to stay home.

Exuse me, blood preassure check time....

Toronto is one of the most poorly planned cities in North America both road wise and TTC wise. Why else does the subway actually come ABOVE GROUND in many places along the line in a cold climate with snow (causing unnecessary delays).

The Sheppard line is an absolute joke which only makes it more convenient for EXISTING TTC patrons to have a shorter ride than before. This investment was suppose to attract new TTC riders (yeah right).

The only solution to our present day road traffic problems is better transit...but that's not going to improve in our lifetime. Hell, our world class city didn't even have public transportation accessable to our airport. GEEZ.

What do you think of the planned $30,000,000 bus route to York University (originally supposed to be a Subway line).

Crap people stop complaining I live in Ottawa and pay $2.60 to take the bus. Our most frequent bus runs every 10min. during rush hour and every 20 min after 9pm, most are 45min to an hour. I end work some nights at midnight and the 45 min walk home is faster than taking the bus, despite the two buses I would take are the two most frequent in the system

As someone who has used bus and trains services all over the world, I say be happy that you have what you have now. You think this is over priced for substandard service, try travelling.

While I do understand the frustration and I am really not trying to be a bitch, I just know it could be worse then it is.

Love it or hate it, the TTC is by far the cheapest and reasonably efficient, and you don't have to worry about parking, which alone is many times the TTC fare if you're doing downtown, gas, maintenance and depreciation of your vehicle (and that includes a scooter), insurance etc. Grin and bear it ppl.

I wish where I live we had half the service the TTC offers, and for $2.60 fare, or less than $30 per week(figuring 2 trips /day/5 days a week) you cant drive very far, or put much money into parking
