Slow and steady wins the race.
I agree, I don't get people that accelerate quickly, only to have to use the brakes at the next light, Toronto stop lights are totally uncoordinated, accelerating slowly rarely wastes any time.

The poster I was responding to was referring to highway driving, not the scenario you are describing.

He's right. Most people do not accelerate quickly enough getting on the highway.

Red House over yonder.
In the US old people and slow drivers can camp out in the right lane. Middle of the road moderate drivers also have their lane. Maniacs in a hurry and willing to chance a ticket can stay left. The problem here is that the duffer right lane keeps disappearing. This forces a cautious driver like the Prez to stay in the middle lane. I don't want to be there but I also don't want to keep encountering underpowered cars struggling to accelerate from the ramps.

Last Winter a left lane 4 wheel drive winter tires invincible driver zoomed past the Prez with 30 degree temps and rain falling. A few miles up the road that car was on its roof with its front facing on coming traffic.

I am that guy in the middle lane driving the speed limit in a high performance car with zero points on his license. If it feels like my ass is in your face you are too close. Also, try not to cut in front of people. Auto breaking systems may look good in rural areas but they may set off more chain reaction crashes here. Observe the laws and don't be selfish.

Agreed. Too many self righteous dufuses (doofuses?) on the road these days, that think the road was built for them, and themselves alone.

Its not just the legalities involved, its the rules of the road, which they DON'T teach, and should! The biggest one for me is the "fast lane". Yes, everyone knows that the "speed limit" is 100 kph on the 400 series highways, but the general "rule of the road" states that if there are 3 lanes or more, the left lane is reserved for anyone going the accepted speed limit of 120kph or greater. (Hell if you aren't doing a buck twenty, even the cruisers pass you!) If someone comes up behind you, move to the middle lane (when it is safe to do so), to allow that person to pass. Not a difficult concept to grasp.

Another one that chaps my ass, are people that can't drive in roundabouts! We have a lot of them in K-W and I'd say roughly HALF of the drivers on the road fail miserably at them! :frusty:

Agreed. The driving lane should never disappear or turn into an exit, but it does so regularly in the GTA and this discourages people from staying right.

There is one new roundabout in Mississauga on the west side of Square one, that I know of. First time I came up on it I will admit there was some confusion, wtf is this... maybe half the drivers you see are from out of the area.

Agree on the people sitting in the left lane with cars behind them and no cars infront, shitty drivers that are oblivious to what is going on around them and they don't understand the laws/etiquette.

I find that the issue is the people driving should not be driving. Plus they have no disregard for their fellow drivers.
1. You should not be allowed to travel 4 hours outside of the gta to obtain your g2/g. 2. The invention of the rear view camera- on streets like dundas, college and St Clair if you don't know how to park DONT ! Fucken dumb ass idiots trying to park. 3. Plain disregard for your fellow drivers- I said that already but it's true... If ur lane is ending signal and wait your turn don't cut me off I waited in traffic while you take a shortcut ? Idiots attempting to make left turns from small streets, these people can't drive please attempt to retrain these clowns

Just to add to this, when merging onto the highway, TRY TO USE AS MUCH AS THE MERGING LANE as POSSIBLE.

The idea is to gain speed and move into the flow of traffic, don't just cut into the flow of cars right when you enter the highway... fucktards.

Or the assholes that jump out of their lane and use the merging lane to pass a few cars... fuck you assholes.

Have a nice day. :biggrin1:

I'm noticing more and more that people seem to travel excessively ABOVE posted speed limits, or excessively BELOW posted speed limits.

I'm not suggesting that speed limits need to be lower or higher, just that we should all try and travel close to posted limits which in most cases are safe and adequate for any given road.

A few months ago I was in a left turn lane preparing to turn into a parking lot. There was an idjut behind me in a pickup truck. He pulled out and passed me on the right and then cut across in front of me into the parking lot. I guess I was not supposed to slow down to turn a corner. This happened not in Toronto but in a small city.

 I had to laugh at this, its so true and I for one am always on the road and I'm pretty patient but sometimes I get very annoyed at some of the habits.
Especially some of the young ones.

Yep, had two close calls on the roundabout just north of Waterloo. One guy took the third exit from the right entrance. There's a freaking sign showing the allowed exits for each entrance! Follow them.

Another guy was completely off his rocker and turned onto the roundabout the wrong way....

Fuck you buddy
Seriously though, those guys who use the merge lanes to hop a few cars really piss me off, especially when they first drive on the paved shoulder to get there. Back when I was driving an old shitbox I was having trouble with my distributor and had to pull off. Some dick was driving on the shoulder to get to the merge lane and was actually pissed enough at me for blocking his way that he honked his horn and gave me the finger. The fucking nerve on the guy!

Part of it is construction, there's a hell of a lot of it going on throughout the GTA. Gardiner, Eglinton Crosstown, Viva bus lanes in Richmond Hill / Markham, Spadina subway extension, etc. Then you have all of the highway interchanges that were never meant to handle so many cars merging.

I'm a truck driver, so when I see that happening I move over to block the on-ramp. Even then some assholes will use the shoulder to get ahead.
