what is the best, most powerful way to maximize torrent download speed?

I am tired of waiting hours for a download

Depends on your ISP. do it off peak hours after midnight. Or goto public wifi hotspots with low traffic.

Do you find public wi-fi rather unstable? If you are downloading and the connection cuts out, don't you lose everything that was downloaded and have to start over again?

No, I don't download from torrent but I do download from YouTube which obviously are much shorter clips than full movies.

Torrents automatically resumes after interrupted download. no worries. Depending on which youtube downloader, some allow you to resume as well.

Ok, it is nice that Torrents does that. Not all sites do.

What OS are you using?

XP had a limitation on the maximum number of open TCP connections.
Also, make sure there are no other apps uploading or download at the same time.

Last but not least, if a torrent has few seeders or too many leechers, then it could take longer.

Get an ISP that doesn't throttle your downloads. This will mean avoiding the big providers, but the price is about the same.

With torrents you have to take in account many factors like the seeds and leechers ie pick files with big number of seeds your isp ad os counts as well. What you can do at your end is to open the ports for whatever app you are using to open those torrents and to open one file at the time
