is a 1 GB drive large enought for this purpose?
Depends on which Linux distro you choose. Some can be put on a 1 GB usb drive, you have to check.

I put the full version of Ubuntu on an 8 GB usb drive and still had plenty of room left over for other files and data. It works great and took only 10 minutes to create a bootable usb drive on that 8 GB drive. You just plug that flash drive into any PC, netbook or Mac and boot up into Linux.

I was planning to use Ubuntu 9.04
do you need to go and set the BIOS to boot from the USB? you say it works on any computer, but some of the stuff I've seen the guys were saying any computer that can boot from the USB drive.
is this the same as using the live cd?

question about that link to the pendrivelinux.com

is it the same as using the USB startup disc in the Administration tab in Ubuntu 9.04?
I found a tutorial on youtube and was just going to try it that way. Unless there's some advantage of going and downloading the program on the pendrivenlinux link.

Booting from a usb drive is the same as using Live CD.

All PCs brands are a little different though. Some will boot up automatically, others you have to hit F-12, some have you hit another F key, some have you set the BIOS to usb or DVD/CD, etc. You have to check out what your PC requires.

I'm not familiar with pendrivelinux.com. Best to go to their site and see what they recommend.
Or just go with Ubuntu which runs fine. Best to read up and get familiar with Linux terminology. It's different than M$ but once you get familiar with it you will find it laid out very well and logical. Much more logical than M$.

well there are 2 types of key-loggers /stroke trackers, software and hardware. my old work had it hard wired in . basically it was a Y shape device that had the mouse and keyboard installed into it and it would record all the key-logs with its internal memory , i know this for a fact cause i took it off and plugged things in normal and the next day or two i noticed it back installed , so i did some snooping and found out everyone had it .

software ones honestly just back up your files on the computer you use , and reinstall a new os , or try that unbuntu usb key idea. no private mode will save you from key-loggers what incognito mode does is just not save cookies and sites to your cache it makes it so when you close the window everything there gets deleted.

best of luck , when in doubt make the computer unusable and force a reinstall
