Got one last year, 35 over the limit. Family member is a cop and told me to fight it. Ask for a pre-trial mediation with the Crown Attorney if your record is fairly clean. They will try to settle it before it goes to a trial. Had mine dropped to 15 over no points. Made a big difference on the fine. If you can come to an arrangement he will have you stay and you will go in front of the Judge. The crown will present the arrangement and you plead guilty to it. They will even ask if you need time to pay the fine. Walked out within 15 minutes and paid it off.

These ticket fighters wanted 400.00 to do the same thing. What a scam!
So in the end you wasted a day of your time and got stuck with a 15 over ticket that stays on your record for 3 years.
I always use a paralegal that i've been using for 10+ years now and i pay on average 200-250 per ticket. Whenever i receive a ticket i simply email him a copy and forget about it. 30 days before trial i pay him for his services. I dont go to court, dont have to take a day off and waste about 5 minutes of my life in total. Out of about 15 tickets that i received over the past decade he has completely got rid of ALL OF THEM, except one. And the one he couldnt get rid of was the lowest penalty one, with no points.

So i dont know about you, but i make more than 200-250 per day, so its a win win for me, add in my paralegals win % and its a no brainer.

Better part of Hamilton
Took an hour out of my day. ( On salary anyway )
Fine went from 360.00 down to 60.00.
Best 300.00 I ever saved.

As for my insurance I have been with the same company for over 25 years. I get a ticket maybe once every 3 years or so and they have never altered my rates. As a matter of fact I have seen my rates go down for being claim free.

Glad your happy with your service. A para legal is different from xCopper and those type of services. Somehow I don't believe that you got off scott free. The courts are not that generous and generally want some kind of fine.

Somewhere but not here.
My buddy is a detective and he told me this is BS. While the cop may have some kind of note about the reduced ticket, the judge cannot change it back to i.e., 40 km/h over. Cops lower the speed voluntarily in hope that you will just pay the fine and not go to court.
The point is if they already gave you a break they are unlikely to give you another one in court.

it's not the fine you have to worry about. not the points too. it's how many tickets you get in a given period. watch how your insurance rockets (even with no points). it took me 3 years to get my insurance to drop. despite having 2 tickets of 15kph over the speed and 1 parking ticket...i know, i know...

Parking ticket has no bearing on insurance. Its issued to the car not the driver. Same with red light camera tickets.

How do you fight a failing to stop at a red light. I was making a right turn and the cop said I didn't stop.

Doubtful the cop would remember dropping the overage on some random ticket he wrote, weeks/months later in court.
Wrong. Cops make detailed notes on everything, and this would be something noted. "I helped this prick out, and he's not happy."

Slightly unrelated, but is anyone besides me concerned with the ever growing gap between what is legal vs. what is right. Once upon a time, weren't they supposed to be the same?

Signed by a concerned 44 year old who is believing the majority of Torontonians (and other cities and countries) are more concerned with what they can get away with and fucking over people for a buck, depending on how the situation suits them.

Always fight them. They almost always get knocked down where you dont loose any points.
This is the absolute truth. I have had three tickets in two years, challenged each, got reductions to non moving violations with no points and no insurance increase. The fines were still high, but unlike insurance increases they dont last for years. Cops always reduce the speed, hoping you will just plead guilty, not to give you a break. It CAN NOT be increased in court by the cop or the judge. Tickets are given out to raise municipal revenue and have nothing to do with right or wrong. Don't let anyone lay a guilt trip on you. Traffic cops are no more law enforcement officers than strippers are ballet dancers. They are simply tax assessors.

This is the truth. Immediate reaction to any ticket is how do I get away with it instead and waste the court process time for something we did incorrect.

For the record I have had about 8 traffic tickets in my life time and fought 3.
1) Speed written on the ticket was higher than what they got me at by about 15KK/hr. Accepted my conviction at a lower speed
2) Passing on a highway on-ramp - was able to prove I was just getting on the highway and not using that lane to pass. 407 picture work for some things.
3) Speeding <10 over in a 50 going down hill just past the sign where the speed dropped from 60. Stupid ticket. The judge agreed, spent 15-20 minutes lecturing the prosecution and told me to go home.

In the other cases I paid my voluntary tax.
