a friend in barrie felt it... i'm in mississauga and didn't feel a thing... or i'm already way too drunk on my day off.
If I recall one or two summers ago, there was another earthquake just across the river from Ottawa, near Buckingham QC. Will have to look at a map to compare that one with today's epicentre.I thought we had a nice big thick stable slab o' rock under us here ... isn't this sort of thing rare on the Canadian Shield? That's why I don't live in Vancouver or California ....
I felt it too and texted some friends who probably thought I was losing my marbles! Glad to see I'm not.

The features indicate that the Great Lakes region experienced a large earthquake at some time in the past. The trouble is we don´t know when the last large earthquake occurred in this area (the Great Lakes)."
a huge fault line has been found in lake ontario and if it goes again would this not cause a tsunami ?
would this not destroy the pickering nuclear generators like it did in Japan ?
a small tsunami did occur in WW1 in halifax bay when a muntions ship blew up !

I don't think there is enough distance for a tsunami to build up... you may get some violent waves, but that's probably it.
Buckingham is 15km northeast of downtown Ottawa, Braeside is about 80km west downtown (Ontario side of the river).
It was quite a jolt up here in the Ottawa Valley, but no real damage I can see as of yet.

it seems to me distance lessons a wave
the closer the origin the greater the wave
i do not see where depth of the water (great lakes vs the ocean) is relevant but i could be wrong

I slept over at my friend's place and I was up before everyone else. When I felt the tremor I thought it was in my head, because I was still groggy. Didn't want to wake everyone up over something I was not entirely convinced happen. Glad to know I am not crazy...yet lol
interesting thought experiment
it seems to me depth of water is irrelevant after a point
10 feet for example would not cause a tsunami but water displacement must maximize after a certain depth then depth becomes irrelvant
as lake ontario is a shallow lake (800 Ft max) this may be save us from a huge tsuami like japan
