Just a note all this stuff happened in the USA when Trump was president. Remember the hospitals in usa were overflowing the medical community stretched to the max without masks and ventilators hence the lockdown. Despite that usa had the worst outcomes of any industrialised nation due to the mismanagement. In fact the medical community still short of nurses today because of that.
Were there mistakes? Yes. For example, maybe the schools reopened earlier, but we don't know what that would have done to their parents and grandparents. Our only hope is that the legit scientists study the shit out of this so as to be ready for the next one. However, one issue with covid was it was a novel virus so authorities had no idea as to its characteristics (thanks to the authoritarian Chinese regime not sharing) until too late. But there will be another pandemic. The medical schools even in the early 90s constantly taked about when, not if, we'd have another spanish flu.
