Yes and no IMO. The older generations went thru an extremely tough time and have always been taught to 吃苦 (chī kǔ) - eat bitterness or suffer. The younger generation is definitely not as resilient to adversity and you can see this in their youth unemployment numbers and "lying flat" movement. I think there will be some interesting times ahead for China if the economy continues down on its current spiral.China is more practical and cultural resilient to adversity and can sustain a downturn and privation much longer than America can.
