More than 3000 suits were filed after the ASA was enacted, so it is not true that it was done specifically for Trump. Even if that were the case, what is wrong with that? What is wrong in bringing down a former president and rapist, who is currently running for presidency? The point is once your guy commits a crime, there is nothing you can say about anyone's intentions about wanting to bring him down, because that intent is immediately justified by the crime.
You can say all you want that he is a rapist but the facts are that he wasn't convicted of that.
He was convicted of non-consensually and forcibly inserting his finger into Caroll. Regardless of what it is considered per NY law, what do YOU think it is? Rape or not rape? Give me a straight answer.

But you are right, the jury would almost certainly have not found him guilty of rape under New York law if it had been a criminal trial, because they would have reasonable doubt about whether or not he shoved a finger or his penis into her.

As a dual citizen living in Canada - there are a lot of pro-Trump people up here.
There is probably a general sense that if Pollievre wins, he and Trump will get along and Trump basically likes to do things with people he personally gets along with since that's how he views international relations.
The majority would find it bad overall, but there is a pretty strong "Well, the US is just crazy, so be more careful now" feeling.
