I don't watch TV commercials thanks to the PVR. Great invention.

As for radio, I hate the "blubbery blubbery blubbery out of shape dude, look at me, I'm a pear" jingle. No idea which gym the ad is for so it isn't effective.

On the radio topic

I think Sean Jones of Spence Diamonds fame needs a swift kick in the teeth for his radio ads.

I hate that stupid beer commercial where a guy steps up to a quiet bar and orders some beer. Then all the other patrons in the bar turn into a coven of monks and sing Oh Fortuna from Carmina Burana. And maybe a storm starts in the bar and they all get rained on. The guy just stares ahead blankly looking like Oh this is so weird.

Man is that commercial ever stupid! I'm glad I don't even remember the name of the stupid beer!

i've fumed over the vw 'lose your ignorance' spots.

the smugness of the writing is infuriating.

i understand that it is a comedic play on the irony of social/cultural perceptions and that i as a viewer, am suppose to be laughing along with it.

however, i can't get past how the so-called 'enlightened' vw owners/characters (ie: yoga guy and nature lover boyfriend) are the ones who are written/directed to display such judgementally intolerant behaviour.

ignorance it seems,... is a vw owner.

He's gone now, thank god, but how about the "Canadian Tire guy?"

Could you imagine having anyone that smug, poorly dressed, and kinda neutered-seeming as a neighbor for real?

Also, pretty much any commercial during the NHL playoffs because they just loop the same 5 or 6 over and over.

MADD's ad that says a 200-lb man can drink 6 beers in 2 hours and blow legal, but scientists say you can be drunk on 2 (or something like that), like it's the same guy they're testing in both cases. Very misleading imo.

I agree with the other ads listed too so far. I find the hands in my pocket one very annoying (I just don't like the idea of a guy with his hand in my back pocket I guess) and it's not very good since I cannot for the life of me remember what the ad is for. (no that's not an invitation to be enlightened <grin>)

The water in a toilet tank is perfectly clean. That tap water comes from the same source in no way detracts from the quality of tap water. Its just teaching people to think poorly.
Both my dogs agree with you!

BTW ALL commercials are annoying after the 1st 20 or so times, but not NEAR as annoying as those damn infomercials or the on-air begging on PBS!!

way out in left field
While we're on the subject what I REALLY hate is having to watch commercials on the premium channels that I have to pay additional monthly fees for.

So, let me get this straight: Companies buy air time to advertise their products, these stations buy videos/programming, or use that advertising revenue to support production of their own shows, and on top of all that I have to pay an additional fee in order to view these programs? Talk about double dipping at the pool......

Come to think of it, I don't think I purchase any of the products advertised. I've been sitting trying to think of something that I saw advertised on tv that i've bought (recently or in the distant past).

I agree. I'm sick of those two grizzly old fagots already. Mind you it is somewhat appropriate for Bell to be represented by rodents.

Another excellent choice, although I find this series of ads an improvement over previous years. I don't know which I despised more: that disheveled geek who licks another customers vehicle at the dealership, or the giggling, spastic nerd taking the test-drive with the salesman. DorksWagen's history of irritating me is matched only by my experiences with some people who own these cars. However it must be granted to them that they sure seem to be reaching and connecting with their target buyer.

I also agree about the Kia Sedona ads. Come to think of it, all van commercials are silly. But you have to cut the agencies some slack with that - I mean it's pretty hard to build inspiring material around a big lunchbox on wheels - the commercials are a necessary evil, much like the product itself.

In the end the vote goes to the Bell ads because they are so freequent and because they have gone to the well with it way to many times.

Ah yes, I voted for him in last year's thread.

Could you imagine having anyone that smug, poorly dressed, and kinda neutered-seeming as a neighbor for real?
I can imagine having him for a high school teacher in Geography or Science. If CT expanded his profile, he'd also turn out to be a campaigner for some City Council lefty. What's discouraging is that CT probably consulted focus groups & lawyers and came up eith this guy as the model Canadian.:(

Of course, any discussion of infuriating commercials must make mention of Russel Oliver. Though they are very infrequent these days, they are no less revolting. There should be a law preventing that man from appearing in a body suit.

all of them

Personally I find the standard of the advertising and marketing people in North America in general to be pretty piss poor (especially when compared to the UK)

Far too many adverts on TV and radio, 95% of them at the same abysmally low common denominator. Christ do these people think everyone is a moron and unless you jack up the volume and repeat the same ad a bazillion times (often the same ad repeated two or more times within a minute or 3)

If I had to vote for the worst, that is an awfully difficult choice to make seeing the field is so rich in bad adverts, my vote would probably go to Crappy Tire or Bad Boys (what a pair of wankers), Russel Oliver is also way up there (dumb xxxx). THink I will give Bell some slack though (even though the ads are incredibly annoying), any ad showing a hairy beaver is OK I think :)

Favorite ad ? None. THe only remotely clever ads I can remeber seeing in recent history are the new jeep ads, like the one where the eagle dives to catch a meal and thunks into the Jeep. Just tickled my sick funny bone I guess.

THat is the big difference with adverts in the UK compared to here. They use humour to get the message across as opposed to just annoying the crap out of you.

Rant over :)

Those lottery ads where the moron yells "Fantastic!" The only positive is that the giif yelling fantastic is less annoying than the cretin they used to use.

I agree with all other examples mentioned in this thread.
OH MAN, that is one annoying fucking commercial.
Along with the Hell beavers.

Anyone remember that yogurt one where they randomly just screamed or something along those lines at random. Was that yoplait?
Thankfully they pulled them off the air.

Hands-in-your-pocket jingle, catchy, but annoying as well.
