TV issue...any help?

Hey guys i am technically retarded and Im looking for some info. I have a Samsung 32 inch non flat screen and in the past few days there is a really annoying high pitched whining coming from it. Its not constant but it comes adn goes but is annoying as hell when its on. Any ideas what this might be and whether its worth fixing or what itll cost? I will call an "expert" but thought id throw it out there. Thanks

How old is the T.V. and when you mute the sound does the "whining" continue?

its about 5 or 6 years old and no when i mute or turn it down the noise stays. Someone said it might be something with the transformer has come loose and may just need to be glued or fixed back into place. anythoughts?

Yes it is a transformer on the video side of things. Based on the cost of a new 30"-ish flat screen (plasma or LCD) I would consider a replacement. I suppose you could get an estimate from a repair centre.

thanks, ill call and see what the damage might be based on that thought. At least i wont sound like a complete idiot and get taken lol thanks! Might be time for a new TV anyway. Fuck my dad still has the TV i had as a teenager and it works fine. Things suck these days!

I'm just waiting for the fallout when all these flat panel monitors being sold cheap have a problem.

Last time I took a plasma screen in for repairs the cost to replace the screen itself was 2 grand more than a whole new unit.

Sounds like a "flyback" transformer...
