Tried watching “regular” tv tonight.
Omg, it’s all commercials.
How can anyone waste their time on this?

My parents still watch regular tv and I don’t know how they can do that and not become angry or impatient at the amount of commercials. Sometimes the same one will come back twice in the same break

They invented VCRs PVRs. With a fast forward option. Works for me. That being said. Yes it does suck. Waste of time. However, sometimes it's nice to have some background noise in the house instead of silence.

I prefer the radio as background noise. I always have the music on when doing house work.

And that's why you time your bathroom breaks when the commercials are on. And thankfully with PVR'd shows, fast forward makes those hour shows only 40-45 minutes.

As the only dinosaur here I'll stand up for cable tv. A great selection of channels. A nice mix of new and old programming. Discover new programs or re-enjoy old ones. I've become used to commercials and accept it's necessary to pay the bills. Commercials can often be entertaining themselves or informative. Don't have to worry about which streaming service has the shows I want. The pvr has been an amazing addition to tv viewing over the past several years.
Ok, everyone line up to attack the dinosaur.

No cable here. Over the air for local content.

Recently pulled the plug on Netflix; cannot justify current content offering at current price.
Lots of former rights holder catalog now not being licensed to Netflix and the old $8 aint the current $18.xx.

I hit the local library for the dog days of summer tv wasteland.
I grab DVD series from PBS and HBO.
Most of them give you 180 to 600 minutes of ad free viewing and pretty good content.

Yes, I had to scrape the contacts of the remote free of corrosion and replace the leaked alkaline AA batteries.
Cause the DVD player was largely idle for a number of the Netflix years.

Plus library has lots of movies if you are looking for a 2-3 hour one off viewing experience.

The newest craze on TV is sidebar ads during a show you are watching. They are like pop-up ads and can get distracting.

This is what me and a friend have been doing. At same time , since we live on two different cities but close, I get movies , end up on an external HDD and he watches what his city library can't get. And vice versa, we can wait patiently for a show. No commercial.

Also the library offer streaming service for free so we can get other stuff, it is just a matter of patience's.

Rarely do I use torrents, only for Anime that I really want to watch.

I refuse to watch or listen to anything with commercials anymore. I have become intolerant to the stupidity that passes for marketing and commercials these days. It's the same crap over and over again. When does marketing become harassment?

I watch Netflix or Prime and download torrents for other things. Spotify for music.

Gave up TV when analog went to digital (remember that oh-so-crappy conversion box?) There's always something on when I go to visit Mom in the nursing home, though, so I see it again in my future - yeah, sucks...

Not to mention their irritating habit of canning shows after one season.

They blew $30 mil on a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie that never made it past development but they couldn't have given 1899 a final season?

What timing. This report was on CBC's The National last night. It's about the rising cost of streaming services, and how the higher prices are not temporary. Initial low prices were used just to accumulate a subscriber base, but now investors are demanding to see profits.
