I put a bunch of question marks because that usually implies a "maybe". "maybe" that went over your head but I could be both. It could be to protect themselves from bigoted men who would harm them, it could be they feel responsible to give informed consent, it is for sure a niche market. It could be all of the above or just one. But it is convenient and at their discretion to choose the reason

-if I want to stay employed at that office, I'd use their pronouns
-if the pronoun is he/him or she/her I'd probably use them
-if the pronoun is they/them or anything else, I'd just avoid them altogether as I know the individual is a retard or narcissist.
