Typically I feel very sorry for such people and would like to wave my magic wand. But if you are going to play the Green Card Marriage Game at least try to pick someone you honestly feel at least some attraction toward, and give the marriage an honest shot.

I know this is hopelessly optimistic, still. . . Certainly I’m not going to counsel someone to commit immigration fraud. As the maxim goes if someone is going to be convicted make sure it's the client not you.
If you are "giving the marriage an honest shot", then it's a genuine marriage and not a marriage of convenience. At least in Canada it is so. So you wouldn't be convicted in Canada:) I don't know about the States though.

Wow, I thought sham marriages like these occur exclusively to mainland Chinese Ladies who "marry" to single Chinese/white males holding Canadian/American/Australian/British citizenship for 3 to 4 years tops.

If my memory serves me right, there is an identical scheme for EE, Russian in particular to "marry" single male Anglo-Saxons.

Sounds like the World is flat when the Latinos are picking up the "knowledge" fast from the Chinese and EE...

It is nuanced. You are right that if you go into the marriage with the intention that it will be a legitimate marriage that is one thing, however, if there is evidence that it was not legitimate that is another thing entirely. Believe me, when the immigration authorities think that you have been up to no good they have all sorts of prying questions they are perfectly willing to ask to attempt to prove that you are not a legitimate couple and they are perfectly willing to question neighbors, family members etc. . . as well.

There are always going to be visa whores - however most of them come with gigantic red flags which are ignored at ones peril.

Most Western - "Russian" marriages that I'm aware of are prefectly legitimate happy marriages.

Most of those that end in failure are due problems within the marriage not due to a deliberate plot to marry someone they despise just to get to the west. A fair number of women actually return home if the marriage fails within a few years of arrival.

A friend was telling me how a co worker of his married his own cousin because she was a citizen and he was not. They would live in the same house with his cousins 3 children and her long time boyfriend.
