Ive been to a few African countries...and right in the airport upon arrival...there are government warning at customs...not sure of the wording but its basically....gays and pedophiles are not welcomed or tolerated here....if you are either one....leave now or be prosecuted....I agree with one but the other is just ignorance...

So let's be clear...you think homosexuality should be illegal?
Homosexuality was illegal in even a civilized nation like the UK until around half a
century ago. I do not find its illegality in less enlightened cultures outside the western
world any surprising. OTOH putting up a sign like that at the entry point of tourists to
lump the gays and pedophile together was downright ignorant if not offensive. You won't
see that kind of warning even in other countrieslike Indonesia that is not known for being
gay-friendly. I suspect that the warning could be a desperate measure for Uganda to cleanse
its reputation of being a HIV exporter.

There were lots of things that were done a half century ago that we would not tolerate now. Is that some sort of standard?

The fact is Uganda, Iran and other nations make homosexuality illegal. And the guy who has a spasmatic CAPs key seems to think it is okay to outlaw homosexuality.

I didn't say it is surprising, I say it is morally wrong and unlike whoisyourhatemonger, I do have a problem with what they are doing.

And if they think it has anything to do with the "export" of AIDs, I would be surprised because I am pretty confident that they know that in Africa AIDs is not a predominantly gay disease.

That AIDs is not a gay disease is undisputable. But what else can explain
why putting up such a silly warning at the customs? Because they hate gays
and actually think that gays in Uganda are predominantly foreigners? Sometimes
ignorance can only be explained by ignorance.

Or maybe what Uganda is doing is none of your or mine business. Or maybe because signing petitions is a waste of time that doesn't accomplish anything, except getting useful idiots like you all worked up over shit that is irrelevant on a global scale?

Interesting you say that.

Firstly, the original legislation called for the death penalty for gays, due to petitions and international pressure so that is called progress.

Secondly, we sent lots of aid (not AIDs) to Uganda and our government can and should tie aid to basic human rights. So we do have an interest in what is going on over there.

Also, I think punishing people for their sexual orientation is wrong. There is an argument, and a good one, that Canada and other nations have a treaty obligation to act in these circumstances. But you probably are either not aware of the obligations we have agreed to take on or don't care.

It is kind of part of my free choice. If I think it is worth my time, or money to help stop people from being unfairly prosecuted overseas, I will.

On many levels I suspect they need my help and deserve my help more than you might if someone decided to harm you. But I don't begrudge my tax dollars going to help you if you are in trouble. Of course you are completely irrelevant on a global scale.

But I bet you are the kind of guy who gets upset when the police arrest a wife beater because it is none of their business.

...............

To my understanding Pierre Trudeau liberalized the laws against homosexuality
not on any moral ground. He did so because "The state has no business in the
bedrooms of the nation." Tudeau, being the catholic bimbo he was, might have
even wondered if homosexuality was immoral, I suspect. Legality of homosexuality
in Iran and Uganda should not be judged as a moral issue IMO. Genocide which is
a crime against humanity is an entirely different matter. If there is indeed genocide
of gays in Uganda going on urgent action has to be taken.

So you don't view the right to choose your sex partners as a fundamental right? How very antiquated.

And to be frank, I don't know Trudeau well enough to say why he liberalized laws against homosexuality, but if he did dislike gays personally or viewed homosexuality as a moral failing, than I would respect him even more, for legislating in an appropriate fashion despite his personal prejudices.

I personally can't watch two guys kiss on TV without turning away...but I don't think for a second that activity should be banned or criminalized.

If you're pushing for the argument that we should stop foreign aid. I agree.

No I am not aware of obligations to protect homosexuals worldwide.

If it is worth your time and money then get involved, posting on an escort board might be the wrong place to start.

Lol what does Uganda and a wife beater have in common? Oh wait, one is Canadian and the other one is a different fucking country LOL

I guess the "neighbour" argument went over your head. Not surprised.

Posting on an escort board is just someone posting where they hang out. If it gets some signatures from its exposure here...than it was a success. Your assumption, that that is the only place where anything is being done...is factually incorrect.

Do you think it is wrong for homosexuality to be criminalized?

Um, all the signatures are meaningless and won't do shit. Just like every other online petition lol.

Personally no, I think that homosexuality shouldn't be criminalized. But it is irrelevant, it is different country just let them do w/e they want. We don't like people sticking their nose in our business, so lets not stick ours in their.

That is not what the President of Uganda said about the petitions, but what would he know.

So it was okay for Hitler to persecute the shit out of jews, or for Apartheid to go on...as long as it is not here?

There goes that neighbour argument again.
