Can you stop this? I seem to remember there was something in the news about something like this maybe 1-2 years ago, you add yourself to a list and they can't call you anymore. It might be fax though, dont remember 100%. Would love to know if its possible to stop this. I get quite a few of these

In the USA they have a "Do not call" list you can add your number to using the interent and telemarketers can be fined if they call you and your number is on that list. In Canada, you have to deal with each call individually. If it's a person phoning you, interrupt them and ask them to have your number put on their "do not call list". If it's an automated message, call the number they give you or wait until a person comes on the line and then ask them to have your number put on their "do not call list". I was having this problem on my business phone. Since I've started doing this I have gone from 5 - 10 calls a week to 1 or 2 a month.

ya i found the do not call list for the USA, but not Canada. I guess that must have been the fax list i was thinking about.
Thanks Silver, most are automated messages that i get. I will do this next time i pickup a call.

I have fun fucking with them. I know, it's just some poor sod trying to make a few bucks, but I quite enjoy it. The calls have dropped dramaticly.

I've said some of my responses to the telemarketing calls in other threads. No sense repeating. Suffice it to say i have a lot of fun with them and love to wind them up.:)

I do screw with them, but mostly to waste their time. Tell them to "hang on a sec" and put the phone down. Repeat as necessary to keep them on for as long as possible. It's the telemarketing equivalent of TOFFT. If I keep them on the line, they're not calling you. :)

On the same token, for mail advertising that includes a return envelope always send it back empty. It costs them money to receive it in the mail, from what I understand.

I realize they're only trying to do business but I can't stand either of these forms of advertising.

I just get rude with them and say, "don't fucking call me again", then hang up.

I think that you can go online to the Canadian Marketing Association (can't remember their address) and put your name and number on a do not call list. The only problem is that it takes a few weeks to start working and lasts for only 6 months or a year. I can't really remember the detail.

I have primus too. How does that teleguard thing work?

I don't send it back empty, I stuff the original envelope and contents in before I do and any other junk mail I have on hand at the time. That way they not only have to pay postage, but they also get to get rid of the trash too.

Brilliant idea, I'm going to follow that advice.

It may scare you to know that you think like I do. I do the same thing. I love the MBNA credit card aps where I have been " Pre-approved to apply".

A friend of mine picks up strip club adverts and other such treats and mails them back in the postage paid envelopes.

I do both of those. Sometimes I also use the prepaid postage envelopes for personal business. Just cover up the return address and write in wherever you want the mail to go to. Free postage.

Actually what I do is use my Dymo printer to make up a label for my own outgoing mail. This way you get free postage at the mailers expense.

Tell them you are a practicing naturist and unless they can prove they are currently naked, as you claim to be, tell them you morally can't do business with a cloth-ist.

I have "Teleguard" from Primus, so far it's been quiet.

I have this too and I no longer have to deal with annoying telemarketers either. The best part is that it's a free service to Primus customers.
