Depending on where you're going, make sure that you get bills that are undamaged. In certain countries, some establishments will not take bills that are creased or ripped. I've run into this in the Philippines and Colombia.
Check around for rates.
The last time I sold some US at my bank the first rate they gave me was not very good and I complained to the person that I wanted a higher rate and too my surprise they did. This was only a few hundred dollars.
Don't know how it is today but in the past I always got better rates at Canadian banks and ATMs.
Banks in the US always had ridiculously high fees when exchanging currency.
Then the casinos came along that gave the best rates of all for hobby purposes....:eyebrows:
