Used car values

On Monday I had the misfortune of being hit on the 401 by both a huge dump truck and a tractor trailer and now my car is totaled. (The trucker was charged with impaired, dangerous driving and leaving the seen), I'm OK.
So my insurance company calls today and offers me X dollars for my trashed car, but it will cost me at least $5K more to replace it, (a 2002 Bonneville) so I need to show proof of it's value. Internet sights seem good but all are in US funds and I've yet to find the same car in an AutoTrader. Anybody got some good ideas or experience?

There should be some auto appraisers in your area that could write you an appraisel based on an estimated value pre crash.
Might cost a few hundred $$ and no guarantee the Insurance company will budge in their price either
A Colleague of mine this past winter had a car totalled in an accident, he pointed out to the Insurance Company the offer they ahd made him wasn't enough to cover the purchase of a similar vehicle, They claimed they had erred in the odometer reading and ended up giving him what he said was "A fair settlement"

i doubt any insurance company will ever agree to give you "high retail" value...

you can get black book value by going to chrysler canada's website - click down to any model and look for "trade-in value" - you can also look up the red book and black book values at most libraries in toronto - go to the reference desk and ask.

funny - i found 15 2002 bonneviles at www.trader.ca - you can also do a search outside of ontario to find more cars.

FYI - someone at www.leasebusters.com has one available - you might consider looking in to it.

I did the same search on autotrader.ca and came up with those amounts. I'd search for your model around your year, say 2001 through 2003 just to get an idea as well.

Thanks guys, I did the same searches and faxed them to the insurance company so we'll see what they come back with now. Also visited the doc for a check and some x-rays, I'll hang in there for now. Wonder if the HFH or Allure can give me extended service receipts??
