vaccine

After you get the set of shots for Hep a & B-thwere is also I believe a combo shot it is wise to then take a blood test and make sure you have the antibodies and therefore protected.

What's the point? it doesn't protect against everything, least of all, AIDS and other STDs....

Absolutely...you can get it through non sexual contact. I've had my first shot and get the second one later this week. There's apparently a third one required in about 3 months. Its no big deal, just like any other needle. You'll need to have your doctor prescribe the vaccine, pick it up at your drug store, take it back to your doctor for injection. I would recommend it for everyone.

Everyone should take these. Even teenagers.

Hep A can be caught from food. Not as bad as hep B but you will get sick.

Hep B can kill you.

Again, after the series of shots and the correct waiting period take a blood test to make sure you have the anitbodies and therefore are protected.

I think HBV is transmitted in the same ways as HIV.If DATY does not have significant relation with HIV, then it does not have significant relation with HBV too.

At the range!!!
I went out and got mine after I read Rubmeisters post. It was on my to do list, but that post got me off the couch. BTW I didn't need a prescription, I bought it over the counter at Shopper's. It was $60 or $70 bucks/shot and well worth it. This really should be a mandatory vaccine.

cnmb- you thought wrong.

Hep B is a much more resilient virus making it 200 times more contagious then HIV. Saliva does not attenuate the Hep B virus like it does with HIV thus making Hep B more a threat with oral bodily fluid exchanges like DATY, and especially rimming where they may be stool contact with your mouth.

There’s no reason why anyone reading this forum shouldn’t get the Hep shot and be protected. Plus you’ll also be protecting other as you will not become infected as a carrier and then pass it on infecting others. I myself got both vaccines years ago before my first trip to Bangkok. What prompted me to get vaccinated was the fact that 15% of the population in Asia is a carrier for Hep B and through sexual contact I ran a high chance of contacting it. Most all 3rd world countries have high Hep B carrier rates. Remember this next time you visit a local Massage girl or SP from other parts of the world.

As for Hep A it's extremely contagious and you can get it from contaminated water, sea food, etc... remember a few years ago they closed down a Loblaws in Toronto for a week after a produce employ was found to be infected with Hep A. Hep A can make you really sick to but most everyone will recover from it but it can take up to 6 months. Hepatitis attacks your liver; your liver is responsible for over 60 different body functions so you can imagine that having a sick liver can't be a good thing.

Its not vaccine for DATY lovers but reduce risk of acquiring 2 form of virus.

ZZap, I see u done your homework. Got mine for past Asia trip in rural area. To my knowledge, side effects from shots are rare. Blood test 1 month after shot to confirm antibodies that vaccine is working.

question?

I had my Hep shots about 10yrs ago when I was in college. I was doing my practical in the hospital which required us to have the shot.

question is ,once you've had the shot once,is that it? do you have to have it again at anytime in the future?

thank you for the information,guys.

I had Hep B shots about 15 years ago. about the protection period, it is not life long. I was told by a doctor friend, everybody should do a test for the antibody every a few years, it may disappear. The protection period is different with respect to each individual.

Was told by my Doc that the hep shots I received are good for about 15 years but the antibodies started to drop off after 10 years and at that time a booster would be a good idea.
