Vhs And Dvd Question

Does anyone know if you were to tape a TV show on a VHS tape in Canada, Will you be able to watch it in Australia? I was told that they have a different VHS recording procedure they’re as well as in Europe.
If this is true where can I get the tape converted?
And where can I get a tape converted to a DVD?

Although VHS video format is the same throughout the World, the electronic signal that is recorded on the cassette varies from country to country.

NTSC is the video system or standard used in North America and most of South America.

PAL is the predominant video system or standard mostly used overseas.

In effect, you will NOT be able to watch VHS recorded here in Australia. Even if you convert it into a DVD you have ensure that you either make it regiona free or at least compatible with the regions where you would like to see.

Yup ...

You either need to convert the tape from NTSC to PAL, or you need to use a "world" VCR. These types of VCRs which play both NTSC & PAL are fairly common in Europe. I have no idea if they're available in Oz.

Many outlets in Toronto will offer NTSC <-> PAL conversions. A lot of independent video stores will offer this as well. Off the top of my head, I believe Golden Electronics on Yonge Street just across from the Eaton's Centre will do conversion. I think they can also put it onto DVD for you too. You can also call lplaces like Kromer Radio or Bay Bloor Radio or Vistek Camera to inquire if they will either do it or know of places that will.

Be forewarned that converting tapes is generally expensive. They usually charge by the minute and it's a hefty fee.
