Whatabout copy protected VHS tapes? Does the hardware mentioned be able to bypass the copyright protection which is on most of the big studio VHS production?
I bought an episode of the original Outer Limits on VHS at a second hand store. It's copy protected, and I couldn't record it with my JVC s-video VCR. It's possible that I could record it if I opened the tape and put it in a different casing, but it was easier to just find it on p2p instead.

Changing the case wouldn't make any difference. The problem is the macrovision encoding (copy protection) which is embedded in the signal.

But I bought a converter this morning so problem solved.
Glad your problem is solved. Query: What is the self life of your VHS tapes? My VHS are good up to year 10 but gets grainier each year afterward and by year 15 is terrible.

FYI: I bought a Pioneer DVD recorder and hooked it up to my VCR and TV and that is how I made DVD copies of my VHS tapes with no loss in quality in the copied version.
