Hey guys!

after getting a good soaking on the weekend, my iphone 4s got wet inside of it's otterbox defender case. Anyways, I went to the Pacific Mall and paid to have it soaked in alcohol to remove the corrosion. Everything works now accept for the wifi. (too much corrosion in that part of the logic center)... The guy mentioned that perhaps I could by an extension on the warrantee from apple and get a replacement trade. Does anyone know where or how I go about doing this after my 1 year warrantee has already expired?

Any other options?

Thanks

so after having the iphone spend a week at the pacific mall at techvibes.com, I have had to change all of my banking passwords, got locked out of my twitter, hotmail, google and linkedin profiles! though these guys may fix phones, I think they are really ripping off people's personal information. how do I deal with this? FFS! this pisses me off...

Well you hope they are ethical peeps but in the end it's a crap shoot that could happen anywhere you take your stuff in for repairs....:frown:

Corrosion? How long has it been wet?

And, no, Apple won't sell you Applecare on an expired warrantee product.

Any sort of liquid in your iphone, your warranty gets voided.. you pretty much need to get a new one.

warrantees can be transferred from one phone to another, which is why I can buy a warranty off of a trade in phone with remaining time left. The only problem is that the warranty has to apply to the same model and ram size. So, I need to wait for a 4s 32GB to be traded in with some apple care warranty left. The guys at the new shop I brought it to, buyncell in mississauga said they can clean the inside of the phone and reset the water sensors so that it will be apple care ready. When they can put a trade in warranty on the phone, I'll go pick it up and bring it to Apple.

For now, though, I picked up an iPhone 5. Not much diff then the 4s. bigger screen and lighter, but not a great performance change. Apple had it right for quite a while.

You will never get warranty for water damage.... too much crap happens to the circuit that leaves unpredictable results later in time... Just get a new one.

apple store genius will shine a light into your headphone port and dock port and they will see a part inside that changed colour which indicates water damage... it voids all sorts of warranty
