You skipped past the point that the majority of voters -- those who voted for the Conservatives and those who voted for the Liberals -- voted for parties that opposed the idea of a coalition.Look, the way it should work is people vote for their favourite party, the seats are divided exactly by parry and then a majority coalition is formed.
