I was just curious as to what is the average charge for web design? I was offered an exchange of services for a "professional" site, and I just don't think I can do that many hours!

I do like my site but I have been offered to make it better. If anyone has any experience, I'm very curious to the cost.

The best advice I could offer would be to call a couple reputable firms asking for a quote for comparable work.

Sure, a full-blown website might cost $1000 or so. Enhancements to an existing site might be worth $20 or they might be worth $2000.

But the best way to compare would be to get a few comparables.

Save your money jessica_dark. Your website looks fine. It does the job.
I knew a dancer that got talked into spending $5000 for a fancy website.
She knew nothing about computers and the web. The guy told her all the extra money she would make. Guess what? It never happened. It took her forever to recoup the money.

Serious and professional web designers work for fees and do not trade services.

A website should reflect the lady`s personality and services. It should tell her ``story:`` What she is about and what services she offers. However, there are a number of very successful ladies who do not have websites and only advertise on this site`s xxx, the RedZone and sometimes on one of the big international sites.

Having watched this scene for a while, I also believe that it is important for the lady to be able to update her own website. Web people have a tenedency to disappear or become very slow after some time in the business.

If you are happy with your website, stay with it. Get some help with the writing and photo editing and stay with the format that you can service yourself.

You might ask your clients for comments and suggestions on your present site. But in the end, it should reflect your own personality.

There were a couple gals who did very well just creating a Yahoo group then using that for a website. One said she was getting more action from that than she could handle. The Yahoo group didn't cost her anything.

You can also have a Google blog or Google site. Just declare it as an adult site so that a warning comes up. Probably best not to mention $$$, or at least not directly.

Some ladies also post pix on Flickr.

Some girls were using Facebook and My Space.
They said they were looking for friends and companions and no money was mentioned just implied.

Well I've had my site for close to a year now...and it was done as I asked. I chose the colours, fonts, pages, where the buttons go, etc - and everything is updated for free. When I asked the so-called inquirer to provide me with 10 sites that he's done that were not escort-related, all I got was "your site is not professional at all." Just in even asking me to exchange services I don't really understand because it would not be a fair trade in any measure.

I do like the way my site is, I have my own domain name... not a sub-domain hosted by another site like a lot of SPs use. I have to resize my own pics to post when new pics go up, and information is updated as my week changes.

Since I do a lot of the up-keep for my own stuff, I was just wondering what the rate would have been if I was looking to make a new one.

Thanks very much for the feedback!

I would agree with others in that your website is fine the way it is. Definitely serves its purpose.

If you want to spend any money at all, I would say spend 100% of your budget on getting outstanding photographs done, something like KBear photos. Nothing will improve the overall look of your site AND attract new clients as much as a nice set of photographs. Now, not to say your photograhs are not nice, but if you want to make an upgrade to the look of your site, new photos can go a long way.

I looked up the page of a designer who has done a number oif SP pages. She has a package for a 3 to 5 page site for $350. A more elaborate site is 600. Her sites are very nice but she is slow.

As for your pix: I would reduce the number that you have on the site -- there are far too many similar ones -- and get some help with posing and cropping.

A web site's design depends entirely on what you want it to do for you. So you need to be clear about what you want from your website prior to talking to a designer. I'm referring to outcomes such as increased number of client contacts, increasing client knowledge about your services, increased market awareness not the actual layout and look of the site. If you have ideas about the look and layout be sure to pass them on to your potential designers but realize that you are restricting their creativity as you add more requirements.

Before you enter into a deal ask your designer for a proposal and a prototype, some will offer a number of alternative designs. These should be provided free of charge but will be relatively low quality as designers don't want to give away work that can be easily copied. Be sure that both parties are clear about who is responsible for which aspects of the site.

As a general rule, the more technologically advanced (i.e. dynamic) your site is the more it will cost. Your current site is a little dated but as others have pointed out, it serves the basic purpose of providing basic information to potential clients. A relatively inexperienced designer could reproduce you site from scratch in about 5-6 hours depending upon the production tools at his or her disposal. A reasonable cost would be around $250-300. You can expect to pay more for things like fullly standard complient (will work well on any browser), dhtml, javascript, flash, ajax, etc. because these things can take a little more time to write, debug and test.
