Hey guys and gals! Our company keeps getting hit up by individuals who claim to be able to optimize our Google rank if we pay them so much money a month (ie. $300). The way it's sometimes phrased in their approach it almost feels like extortion money to me. Anyway, is this a scam or on the other hand is it something that we can do in-house. Note: We are not terribly technologically advanced around here. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ask them to provide you with the names of satisfied clientele or look them up on the net. Probably find out it is a scam.

If you do a search on terms such as "google rank techniques" you'll see descriptions of the sorts of things which are done to improve one's Google Rank.

I certainly wouldn't pay anyone money to do it, especially anyone who's billing on an ongoing basis (what do they do if you terminate the arrangement?).

It's not a scam but a company well versed in what they do looking to make money just like any other business. Getting your Google ranking on the first page when specific keywords are typed in can be difficult and time consuming. Overall, it is something that has to be done consistently. You could acheive this through meta tags, using a lot different key words for someone to locate your site, social networking sites, blogs, atricles on my site and it is all about getting traffic.

I joined the Google Adsense program a few months ago which has to do with search engine optimization and have created 4 different informational websites and will continue to create more. I design websites just for getting traffic and then be paid by Google. The key purpose of this is to create traffic while I have google ads ( products/services that are relevant to my sites) placed on the right side of my web page. The more traffic I receive on my website there will be more clicks on the Google ads. I then recieve a monthly cheque in the mail from Google. In order for my sites to get traffic and to make money I have to do all of the above. I spend about 3 hours online a day doing this.

If you just want more traffic to your site, you may want to join Google adsense. It is free to join but they will review your website as they are big on content rich type websites. Ranking high on a Google page is not the be all end all. It could take years. It is all about keywords that are relevant to the theme of your website/business or products you have to sell online. There are many different combinations that you could come up with to achieve this and still have great search engine optimization. http://www.google.com/services/adsense_tour/index.html

Instead of paying a third party, why not just pay Google. They offer services for such a thing.

As for a monthly service, I'd stay away unless your site is an online venture like a store.. then its a small price to have customers led to your door.

btw.. Google doesn't utilize Meta Tags
