Week in Toronto

Well, I`m 3 days into my week in Toronto, and here`s my observations so far:

- Not pedestrian-friendly. Downtown, cab drivers will try to kill you. Even if they have to make an illegal turn to do so.

- Great transit system. Took the subway & a bus to Etobicoke. It was cheap, simple, and quick. Very impressive.

- Good food. For some strange reason, I came from the US to Toronto only to visit 2 restaurants that were pretending to be Texan, and one that mimics a New York deli. Gotta try local stuff next.

- F*cked up weather. Rain for 5 mintues, then sun for an hour. Repeat. The humidity is nasty (I took 2 showers today), and I got soaked to the bone in a huge thunderstorm while waiting for the bus.

I saw one SP today (
Alicia), and hope to visit one more before I go. My co-workers want to check out The Brass Rail, so I suppose I`ll have to do that too.

I agree with you about the cab drivers. They are one of my pet peaves about this city.

But it is quite an alive city with a thriving inner city.

Walk down any major street and the stores are all occupied, there are people out and about at all times. People truly LIVE downtown.

If you want a good restaurant, check out the Young Thailand on the corner of Church and Lombard.

I recommend the Thai shrimp spring rolls and the No. 53 Panang Kai. After that, you pick. It's like chineese where you order a few different dishes and share.

You won't be disappointed.

Frankly with all the great restaurants in this city, i am baffled why you would EVER choose Tex Mex. That is just bullshit food for minivan driving suburbanites.

Torontonians are way too cool for such trite. (Those restaurants are purely in business to cater to american tourists)

Take a stroll down college street from Bathurst westward if you would like some good Italian food.

Or check out Lolita's Lust on the Danforth for a great meal, but you will need reservations.

(I still can't believe you went Tex Mex, or NY wannabe deli - Shopsy's ?????(more crap if that was it))

I ended up with tex mex because I was out-voted by my american co-workers (I'm a canadian who lives in california).

I hope to try some decent greek food because my hometown doesn't have any.

BTW, went to "House of Lancaster" tonite. Nice place. Maybe the best I've been to. Good variety, great music, and you gotta love big screen porn!

So far, my visit here has been great. I can see why so many people choose to live in Toronto.

I feel your pain re: your friends voting for tex mex crap.

I also agree that the house of lancaster has come a long way in the last few months.

The last time i was there, it was pretty good, the women were beautiful, as opposed to the last few years where they had really gone down hill.

As far as greek goes, you have to head over to the danforth between Broadview to just east of Pape i guess.

If you want traditional souvlaki and flaming cheese, i recommend just going to the friendly greek on the danforth (at logan or carlaw, i can't remember which, right beside the CIBC).

But if you want a really good meal, just west of the the friendly greek is lolita's lust on the south side of the danforth. It's hard to spot, they don't have a typical overhead sign, just their name stenciled in on the glass, and the glass is painted green i believe.

You won't be disappointed.

Make Reservations though.

Tex mex.

How To Describe My City!

Welcome wannabe Torontonians!!
Lived here all my life and am now a bit confused as how to describe this wonderful metropolis!
Would you just generally call it "vibrant" and "alive", or in the case of those taking advantage of various aspects of the sex subculture, "throbbing"???

Another option in the same general area is the Pantheon. A little more expensive than the Friendly Greek but excellent food. It's at 407 Danforth. Been there several times without reservations but it's probably better to make one.

La ou le plaisir n'a pas de limite...
Try Lolitas Lust a little bit trendy but the food tastes amazing.

I share your pain Lars. Whenever my American co-workers come up here they want Mexican food. WTF?! This is the most multicultural city in the world! (According to the UN.) You can have absolutely anything from any culture on the planet here in Toronto, and my co-workers want Mexican.

Sigh.

Anyhow, glad to see you're enjoying the other diversions this city offers! :)

I recommend Johnny K's other restaurant, GUS, at the corner of Bay Street and Irwin Street. Great food and ohhh the babes. Can never keep my eyes on the menu.

Tonite, the boss voted for The Chop House on Front St. It's a great place to go when somebody else is paying. Still hoping to get a little greek in Toronto. Maybe some greek food too.;)

I wanted to take the 6 of us to the House of Lancaster (1) since I know it, and its a safe bet. Ended up at the Brass Rail instead. At first, I was really disappointed. Crappy seating, bad lighting, too noisy, and bad music. And the girls there are incredibly pushy. They make telemarketers seem polite.

I ended up spending a lot of time with a girl named Lexi (Amber). She's a real sweetie. She's sexy, funny, and really down-to-earth.

Thanks to 2 nites of strip clubs, the second-hand smoke has ruined me. Its worth it, though. Still loving Toronto.
