Were Saints right to run up score for Brees’ record

I don't have an issue with it. It wasn't like they were doing it to rub it in their face or for no reason. It is a pretty prestigious record. They were home, the media was there, and people were expecting it. He was only 30 yrds away. I'm sure the press would've made a big deal about it if Peyton held back Brees they would've made a big deal about them running down the clock when he was only 30 yrds away. It could've taken all of one play but it took 5...big deal....The Falcons got it right, if they did their job earlier then it wouldn't have been an issue. I'm sure neither Brees or Peyton would've went for it if he was say 100/150 yds away from the record. Let's not let the press tarnish a rather great achievement.

With the game out of hand, I don't think it was a bad idea to go for the record. It's more coincidental than anything that N.O. started that final drive on the ATL 33. If the Falcons had moved further upfield and the Saints had taken over at mid-field or even in their own end, I think they still would have tried to achieve 30 yards worth of passing. Had that been the case, there wouldn't have been nearly so much fuss over going for the record. As fate would have it, though, trying to get 30 yards worth of passing when you start at the 33 yard line means there's probably a good chance it will result in a touchdown.

In the back of his mind, Coach Smith is probably not minding the decision, because now he can use that as motivation should the Falcons meet the Saints again in the playoffs.

The Saints have run up the score many times this season. Remember the 62-7 shellacking of Indy?

Frankly i'd be far more insulted if in a competitive event my opponent stopped trying simply because they got a huge lead on me , that is patronizing and demeaning. These athletes are adults, suck it up.

I never did understand this shit. They have a similar unwritten rule in baseball. If your team is leading by 5 or more runs in the 7th, you are not suppose to steal a base or to swing at a 0-3 pitch. That is so stupid. Will your opponent stop scoring runs? NO! So why should you stop playing your game? Imagine leading by 5 runs in the 8th and you choose not to produce a run when you had the opportunity to do so. Your opponent scores 5 in the 9th and wins it in extra innings. Who will look like a fool then?

They call it respecting your opponent. I call it taking pity on your opponent and, when you take pity on your opponent, they can come back and bite you.

You can't swing at a 0-3 pitch...you will be on the bench by then :p 3-0 pitches however...
