Cap and trade was first brought into Europe several years ago and it's been an abysmal failure.

Plain and simple: money grab. This will ruin ontario.
If the money was wisely invested in alternative energy, it would be great, but I have very little faith in Wynne's ability to do that. How about bankrolling this kid...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPhRq5r8iqg . The private sector in Canada is too busy with currency speculation to take this on and they figure oil will be profitable for a few more years and they don't look beyond that time frame, so if government doesn't do it, who will?

Good explanation, but why is it added to our fuel costs, how does it relate to us? If we pollute less are we rewarded. I kept this out of politics as it affects us all, just wanted an explanation.
Sure you are rewarded, you use less gas and therefore pay less cap and trade fees. You can also buy an electric car and Auntie Wynn will give you thousands of dollars for being such a team player. This money will come from those driving gas guzzling cars.

Canada is a trading country, so to some degree our carbon policy is decided by our trading partners. The EU and other signatories of the Paris treaty will impose tariffs on goods from non-complaint jurisdictions. So we have to impose our own tariff or just hand them the cash. This is in essence what we are doing and the money will be spent here. Will it be spent wisely? Who knows. But even if it is squandered, its better squandered in Ontario then elsewhere.

In a place far, far away
I read up on it but still don't get it, anyone?
Best way to understand it.

Go and visit your favourite SP.
Have her wear the biggest strap on known to mankind.
Bend over spread your ass cheeks
Have her ram it into your ass without any lubricant

Assuming that is nycot- the sp gets your and you get nothing in return.

Stripping away the political hyperbole, cap and trade is a very feeble way to deal with climate change. Unfortunately it will be the generation born after 1995 that will be forced to deal with this problem and they're going to hate us for leaving such a mess.

I wouldn't worry about the current government, it's future generations that are going to make us spread our ass cheeks. Save your money folks!

Doesn't Enbridge have to buy the carbon capacity from somewhere else? Ie some other company or industry is lowering expenses somewhere, we just can't put a finger on where.

Or perhaps i don't get it.

They get a set number assessed to them for the carbon credits that they can buy, if they need more, then they seek out a company that doesn't need/won't use the carbon credits that they are given and buy more credits from them.
