What is it about Toronto?

Are we stupid, Are we suckers, are there no spectacular women here?

I am always amazed at the women that make a trip to Toronto and think that they can boost their "Tributes" to a ridiculous sum.

Now if you have read a few of my posts I am not against a woman being able to charge what she feels her time and skills are worth. I have no problems with $1000 per hour girls - but don't tell me you are worth $1K in NY and $1.5K per hour in LA - doesn't fly - same thing about the $160 girls in Montreal who think they can become $300 girls in Toronto.

Guys give it up - Don't see them!!!! Wanna spend $300 - we have lotsa incredible girls here in the city that don't see $$$$$$ tatooed on your forehead - go see them - leave the visiting ladies that think they can boost us to the Tourist from Milwakee who doesn't know any better.

If a girl does a road trip and comes to Toronto and charges the same here as she does at home - then by all means - experience some new stuff. She is here to spread her winds and appreciate us -

Don't let the stupidity continue -

They're missing the basics of Marketing 101. Research your target market and place yourself accordingly. Assuming that a commodity has the same price everywhere is naive (except for gasoline apparently :( ).
Another marketing strategy. BUY LOCAL!! Support the economy.

I think a woman should charge whatever she wants to charge. And I think guys should pay whatever they're willing to pay. Worrying about anything else is a waste of time, IMO.

I think it has alot to do with the cost of living in each city as well as the risk of doing business in a particular city/ country. The cost of living is much higher in Toronto than it is in Ottawa for example therefor an SP is most likely to charge more while woking in toronto. The legal risk to any SP in the states is much, much higher than any SP in canada therefor her fees likley reflect that risk. If I was working in New York, paying $2000. a month rent and risking being thrown in jail and huge bail and lawyer costs, my service fee would be much higher than the $300. an hour outcall fee I charge in Toronto.

i agree with doc when i travel i don't raise my rates. the cost of expenses is my problem not the clients, it is my choice to go to their city. IMO if you can't afford to travel with out pushing up the rates stay at home.

Though interestingly enough, the salaries in Toronto are not any higher by any significant amount.

If you look at the ministry of Finance's webpage for salary disclosure of all employees making over 100k a year, it is interesting to note that a principal (say) in Windsor makes as much as a principal in Toronto. Same goes for other gov't employees.

I know my company has offices in Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, all the major Canadian centres and those in Toronto do no better than those in Lethbridge.

Another Urban legend.

I have no problem with a woman charging what they want - no one is under duress to take advantage of their offers. In fact in a few months I will have a huge surprise for everyone just on this topic. Howerver, what I do have a problem with is the practice of jacking prices (hmmm- like a gas station before a holiday weekend in the summer or perhaps or the price of roses the week befor Valentines day - and please spare me the lecture on supply and demand).

All I really wanted to point out is that these girls that tried to gouge when in Toronto should be taught that we are not stupid here, that we have the most amazing women here that are fair in their expectations and that we don't need someone to blow into town looking for the Rubes -

Yes I agree here. Girls coming in to this city should research the local market and base their rates accordingly. While I can see why someone would want to make up for their hotel and expenses, I don't see why they would need to jack their rate up by $500. If anything they should keep their normal rate because of expenses (yes, even if they are charging 1k an hour). If you keep your normal rate, even if you are paying for a hotel + expenses, you can still bank. Just figure out how many clients you need to see to account for the costs.

And if you are making more money at home then stay there! Personally I am skeptical about doing anything for business that is going to take an initial large investment that might not return. I have no problems spending my money (and alot of it) on make-up, clothes, toys for work-you know goods that are somewhat durable, where as a hotel room is only good for 2 days (or how ever long you stay). It has happend to me before and that is why I don't leave the province and only travel to places that are not that far to drive. Sometimes I work in the USA, but I go there with the mentality that I don't expect to make much money, I only work in the USA while I am visiting family or friends (thus it is not an official business trip).

Umm...I did say that I have been guilty of doing it. Never said I was high and holy and never did it. Kind of like when people assume that all doctors are male, it kind of slips the mind. I can't tell you how many times when having a conversation about personal health care people have assumed that my doctor is a male.
Okay - Kacy - why did you have to burst my bubble -

drrogers,
I think you are being unfair. I know you are basically singling out the Montreal girls who are visiting - Lea,Emanuelle and Lilly who are all $300+ per hour. They are all GFE, they're French and they're hot. I would take any one of those over these NYC women who are basically non-GFE and charging around the same rate. Diversity is what makes this hobby great and if people are willing to pay that kind of $$$ (me included), I don't see what the problem is.
BTW, welcome to the 1,000 post club(almost)

Dude, it's a free market. If a $160 girl in Montreal comes to Toronto and gets bookings at $300, then she's a $300 girl in Toronto whether you like it or not. By the same token, if she can't get bookings at $300 in Toronto, then she's not one, whether she likes it or not.

There market for SP's is pretty competitive. Low cost of entry, lots of suppliers, lots of customers. Nobody has enough market power to control the price. Everyone charges, or pays, the going market rate.
