stupidest thing you have ever been asked about Canada?

I was in Jamaica and someone asked me if snow fell from the sky!

He was dead serious too!

but of course I laughed my ass off!

Canada happens to be one of the most uninteresting countries around.

There was a show on TV where they asked Canadians who the Prime Minister of Canada was. Half of them didn't even know. But everybody knew who the President of US was.

Do you know who the PM of Canada is eh?

Shortly after 911 I was in Europe and ran into a couple of Americans who upon hearing I was Canadian thanked me for sheltering the stranded Americans who were grounded in Halifax. "We like you Canadians -- you're like our 51st state" -- I know they meant well but I thought their assumption that one would see that as the supreme compliment showed why so many people have a hard time with American xenophones.

It never fails, when one of my European relatives comes to Canada for the first time they inevitably ask to borrow one of our cars to "pop in on Uncle Jerry for a minute".

Uncle Jerry lives in Victoria.

In a van down by the river
One of the biggest missconception that Canada(most of europe as well)has, is to believe that the POTUS is the most powerful man on earth.
The POTUS has only as much power as the congress and the senate let's him have.
In Canada the party with the most votes elects the PM (most of the times).
It is quiet possible for a POTUS to have both the house and the senate against him, see CLINTON.
If the POTUS doesn't kiss up to the oppostion he is a lame duck.
As you can see calling him "the most powerful man" or KING" is not correct.

Why do you expect people to know a lot about Canada?

Why would Europeans know a lot about Canada? How many of you as Canadians could answer questions about European nations? Could you identify countries on a map? Cities? How about naming capitals? Do you know distances between European cities? Do you know what kind of climates European countries have?

As for Americans - Canadians know a lot about American culture because we see it every day. Were completely exposed to American media. We dont have to seek it out. Its just there. Americans dont have the same exposure to Canadian media.
And how much do you know about America? Again, can you identify states on a map? How about state capitals? Climates in different regions?

And how many world leaders can you identify by name and country? Could you identify photos of them?

mtl-guy has a good point, its all part of our canadian little-brother syndrome. Little Bro thinks he never gets enough attention

The rest of Canada feels that way about torontonians and ontario.
They think that we think that we're better then the rest of Canada. At least thats the impression I get

We are America's biggest trading partner. Don't you think it might be important for people to know just a teensy-weensy bit about their biggest customer/supplier?
