i love comics. i don't read them i collect them a little. anyway at least once a month i have to watch the dark knight, it is by far the best of the superhero movies. heath ledger as the joker just put it over the top. so many hidden things in it i didn't know that came out later.

like when the joker showed up at the fund raiser micheal caine actually had lines but it was his first time seeing the joker and forget everything he was supposed to say. just small cool things like that.

the avengers is amazing as well but it's not something i need to watch.

i must say the nolon trilogy is probably the greatest trilogy in superhero movie and action movies in general.

with all the marvel and dc world stuff coming up and what is already here what is your favorite ?

oh and new superman and wolverine movie coming this year.

Without a doubt- presently its the Bale/ Nolan Dark Knight series. The first two Spidermans were pretty good too. I'm hoping for a great new Superman though.

the new spiderman happened already and it wasn't that great. i think that is partly due to it being so close on the heels of the trilogy that had basically just ended.

i am also very tired of origin movies. we don't need more of those.

On one level I agree with you simon. The second in the nolan series is a step beyond the norm for a superhero blockbuster. Heath Ledger set the bar for a villanous psycopathic performance( with a great script). He very much captured many of the elements of the Joker character. I suppose some purists may say the Joker wasn't played with as much "joy for killing" as he was in the comics but for film I think anything resembling that would have come across as a bit campy(see Jack Nickelson).
In the end though I'm not sure how much the Batman qualifies as a "superhero". Don't get me wrong, I love the character but he is only human. I think the nolan films because of the realism probably fall under"action thriller" bettter as a genre. Perhaps splitting hairs but thais is a geek thread so I will get geeky!

My top 3 superhero films( in no particular order)

Spiderman 2
The Avengers
X-Men First Class

What they are doing especially with the Avengers and all the continuity in the side films is quite frankly amazing. The investment in time, writing, signing of cast to up to 6 films is truly a geeks wet dream.

As for the X-Men the new movie coming out will be including cast from the old and new franchises to complete the story loop. Again a fan-boys dream.

i am kinda hoping they can pull a good hulk movie out of that.
Mark Ruffalo is signed to do six films. It could be cameos, mid parts or another solo feature. Even he wasn't sure where it was all going to go but that he was happy to be along for the ride.

i like the way you put that and it never occurred to me like that. i got both the shumacher and nolon batman movies and to be very honest the only good one was the first with keaton and nicholson. the rest got to jokey. ledger almost played joker like he is portrayed in the video games with mark hamil as the voice. psychopathic and no care about anything. ledger really redefined the villain with his role i could do without bale and his fake batman voice.

i like with the avengers series they are getting incredibly talented directors who grew up reading those comics so they are kind of purists to the genre and that makes for a great movie. i was told there is an order to watch them in and that it was

iron man
thor
hulk
iron man 2
capt america
avengers

not sure how accurate that is but i think it works and i have done it in that order and it plays well. with the lotr trilogy, comic book movies and a few others this last decade or so has been great for nerds.

even though the bane voice was annoying as hell it was a great character as well. not sure about anyone else but i got a small boner for the new star trek.

you mentioned earlier the x-men series. i hope they start over from the beginning with those. i know i said no more origin movies but the first 3 were not good. the origins series was a good start but they could do far better with those. i like how they are staying with hugh jackman for wolverine i don't think anyone can play it better than him.

something that does bug me is guys that double dip. ryan renolds being both green latern and dead pool. that guy that played capt america being human torch in FF. if you were a hero guy in a movie you shouldn't be allowed to be one in another movie.

daredevil could use a redo as well.

The next Xmen is titled "Days of Future Past" and will involve characters and actors from both timelines. Their is a great timetravel story arc from the comics it sounds like they are following. I remain hopeful. All rights to marvel characters have reverted back from the studios and are now solely owned by marvel(and their own studio). The scrs are not being written by hollywood hacks but by comic writers. No smarmy producers anymore either. It is all in house. This is why you are seeing better portrayals of the charaters and the continuity of plotlines.
The order for the Avengers movies is essentially correct.
Wait till Iron Man R. The Mardarin (his main foe from the comics) is being played by Ben Kingsley. This one is gonna be good.
The Wolverine film has the Silver Samurai. Again another classic choice.

that is something i am loving about these movies as well. you can tell who has control of them based on the villains. i love they are picking the more dangerous villains. not just the same guys over and over.

When i was collecting comics as a pre-teen my favorites were; Teen Titans, X-men, Hulk and Wolverine's solo title, i was more of a Marvel fan. For me the top comic book movies are; Blade 2, Superman 2 , The Dark Knight Rises, Sin City and Spider-Man. They need to start making sequels for Blade again, its been too long.
