I don't particularly like Tom Hanks and although he has been in many very well made films, none of them are my cup of tea.

However, I think he is a good actor more for the space he gives other actors - he's better when he's more subtle.

Sometimes, it's what you don't say rather than what you do.
Interesting observation on Hanks. One that I had somewhat observed, but could not put it into words.

Of his movies, I think I enjoyed Bachelor Party only because of the amount of T&A; A League of Their Own because he played a pretty good washed up drunken ball manager (minor role). He did do a pretty good job on Big (until he decided to grow up near the end).

The rest of his flicks were similar in acting to Nicolas Cage.

I've often thought that a remake of "Bad Ronald" would be wild. He could live in the walls of the entire house and peek in on the life of the family that bought the place after his old lady bit the dust. For late night spankers, like me, there could be all sorts of T&A in it - The young girls getting banged by high school boys, the girls working a toy while Ronald does himself in the heating vent, the old man laying some serious pipe in the master bedroom ensuite...Well, perhaps a porno version of Bad Ronald could be made too.

Other movies I have actually enjoyed scenes out of:

* Blade Runner - At the end when Rutger dies.
* Jason & The Argonauts - When the skeletons came out of the ground to fight
* Planet of the Apes - Any scene with that human chick
* National Lampoon Vacation Movies - I love Beverly DeAngelo's mouth

Shogun Assassin
“Sometimes you have to take a chance if you want to have a bath.”

Private School for Girls
“Finest example of bareback riding I’ve ever seen.”

Heavy Metal
I like how the taxicab backseat disintegrator beam knew to disintegrate the clothes first in case of a female passenger.
John Candy is great as the little robot that accidentally kidnaps the Jewish secretary and then fucks her while the pilots get high on space blow.
He's also good as the nerd kid turned naked barbarian who gets out of accidentally fondling the evil princess by satisfying her sexual appetite.
"Wow! Eighteen years of nuthin' and now, twice in one day. What a place!"
This movie had everything an eleven-year-old could ask for in a cartoon.

Planet of the Apes
“Take your stinking paws off me, you dirty ape!"

Night Shift
“Wait a minute! Why don't they just mix the mayonnaise with the tuna in the can... HOLD THE PHONE! Why don't they just FEED the tuna fish mayonnaise! [speaks into tape recorder] Call Starkist!”

G. I. Joe: The Movie
The part where Duke gets impaled by a Serpantor javelin is really shocking even if it is a rip off of Conan the Barbarian. Too bad the creators wimped out and brought Duke back at the end. Also check out the Knowing is Half the Battle dubs on Youtube.

Tron
I like the music from the arcade video game when you fight the spiders.
People having wall-making motorcycles materialize around them was cool.

Flash Gordon
“Flash! Ah-Ahh!”

Five Deadly Venoms
Centipede, Snake, Scorpion, Lizard, and Toad

Bambi
I like the version with “The making of Bambi” at the end with the stuffed deer on Walt’s desk – for irony.

Eleventh choice just for TQM:
Risky Business
The part were the two highschool nerds are watching 20-Minute Workout late at night on the store window TV and sunglassed-blazered-pimp Cruise glides in for the easy sale should be required viewing in film school.

5 Deadly Venoms!!!!!! I remember that as a Saturday afternoon kung fu movie. I miss those Sat afternoon Kung Fu movies. I like the Shaw Bros stuff. I remember running around with my friends and inevitably people were fighting over being the various characters.

Very cool premise and the styles were interesting with their strengths and weaknesses.

Can anybody recommend other favourite Shaw Bros kung fu flicks?

Shogun Assasin is good too.... did you know its the first in a series of movies also known as the lone wolf and cub series...... all are very good.

GI Joe the movie was quite entertaining as a kid. Don't know how good it would be now but yes the death scene added a grit to the Joe franchise that I liked. WAsn't a fan of the gimmick characters like Sgt Slaughter. Yes the plots had some pretty big holes in them. BTW the creation of serpentor was a cool storyline. Think there was also a cool storyline with a dark underground cult that I enjoyed.... again just a touch darker than the usual Joe series. Always like Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Zartan and the Dreadnaughts and Firefly.

I like Magnolia the best but I wish the movie culminated with a bigger set of coincidences like the urban legend stories that they start the movie off with. Actually this also shows Tom Cruise playing a bit out of character for him.... cocky is nothing new but the slimey asshole was (a refreshing look for him and I think it help legitimize him in some ways..... a smart career move on his part..... unlike some of the decisions he's made such as his sister as manager and that whole scientology thing and of course the Oprah meltdown). Great scene when the wife of the dying man is at the counter trying to score some prescription drugs... the desperation in her eyes was amazing. Think it was Julianne Moore.

I think the problem with a lot of leading men is that they always want to be the leading man and that limits the roles that they have to choose from and why you end up seeing the same thing over and over again even from greats like Deniro and Pacino.

Boogie nights is a good movie as well but for me it's more personal connections to the inside look on porn, the history of the switch from film to video, and the sad demise of the porn stars. Knowing about drugs and addiction it's a little painful for me to watch (no I've never hit that kind of rock bottom but I can empathize and have watched friends sink really low.... same reason why I can't watch Intervention).

Punch Drunk Love is one that I think I need to watch again but it didn't really do much for me the first time.

I love Battle of the Planets I have a two disc dvd set of their stuff with a collection of their episodes! YEah there were some gritty episodes I cried when Princess was swallowed by the alien flowers. Mind you I was 3 maybe 4 at the time.

Wow that was a serious ass kicking scene. Pretty much what you'd expect in a kung fu movie..... great scene. The thing I like about anime in general is that they really try and push the imagery and style aspects it's not just simple straight forward easy animation..... didn't get that kind of action with say the Superfriends.... instead we got a monkey and some lame as twins.

If they made a movie version of Superfriends, it would be on my top 10 list.

Takeshi Castle
...time for a revival.

Getting back to Il Postino, the white hot love interest in the film was Maria Cucinotta.

She is also Tony Soprano's lithium induced fantasy woman Isabella, (Season 1, Episode 12).

Tony - I'm King Midas in reverse, everything I touch turns to shit.
